Doing the final flight and POE advice

Hello everyone, i just have a few issues in regards to flying to the States with the K1 visa in hand.

I will be flying out on the 26th March to Chicago O'Hare airport and i am wondering what forms i will need to fill out even though i am entering on a K1 visa. If i remember rightly, on my previous visits i filled out a green card (VWP) form and a white form too. I cant remember what the white form was for, but what im asking is do i need to fill out these cards on my journey to be with my Fiance? Im thinking that i will not need to fill out the green card but im not 100% sure. Any input on this issue will be much appreciated as i DO NOT want any more hassle at the POE than i am already expecting.

Also can anyone shed some light on what actually happens when you arrive at the POE and the Immigration desks. I know it will be as much nerve wracking as everything else on this journey, so any advice and experiences will be a real help

I look forward to any input, many thanks

Stuart

You fill in the WHITE I-94 they will hand you on the plane. The green one (I-94W) is only for VWP travellers. And that's the only form you fill in  . Just make sure you have the sealed envelope they gave you at the embassy to hand, give it to the POE immigration person, and away you go.

Why would you think you'll get a hard time at POE, btw?

So the white form is the only form i will fill in?? ok that works. well i havent got my sealed envelope yet, the only thing they gave me back at the embassy was my chest x-ray which the interviewer opened in front of me. I will be getting my Passport (envelope as well im assuming) tomorrow morning between 8am and noon.

Im not expecting to get a hard time at POE, all i said was i bet its quite nerve racking, im just not taking for granted that it will all go smoothly, so if it doesnt, i will not be disapointed, you know? just the way i work i guess.

Yep, quite right; the customs form too (but that's nothing new - you would have had to have filled one of those in on every VWP visit.)

Yep - the envelope comes via courier with your visa. And as Paybixa quite correctly pointed out, you fill in the blue customs form too (which again, you will get on the plane). And I really wouldn't worry about POE, mate. I've never heard of a VJer (a U.K. one at any rate) being turned away once the visa is secured.

Thanks for the input people, so i will be given the I-94 form and the blue form to me on the plane? or will i have to ask for the I-94?

Thanks for the reassurance pal on the POE, i just want to get it done, done and dusted. Finally get to live my life with my one true love.

All the flights I have ever been on the flight crew walks all the forms around a couple hours before arrival.... When they do just make sure they provide the correct I-94 (white one).... If not just ask... they shouild have it in there hands....

YMMV

Depends on the airport/airline, Northwest at Heathrow give the I-94/I-94W to you whilst you are waiting to check in. You can also pick them up at the info desks in the terminal. But they will come round the plane before landing to check if you have one. However bring your own pen!

Just make sure you carry the brown envelope with you in your hand luggage when you check in and go for POE. I went through Chicago O'Hare POE and I had no problems at all with the POE the just process you at the same place where you enter with the VWP and you don't have to go through a different area like some other airports. If you have another flight be prepared for delays as nothing seems to depart on time there.

The only problem I had was at Dublin Airport with those security people who ask you about a million personal questions before you check in well I had a ######. She took my passport off me for 10 minutes and went off with it. She asked me how I got to Dublin can I see your ferry ticket and can I see your hotel receipt which I had thrown away and I told her. And about a million other questions all beacuse I was on a one way flight and a male traveling alone. I think she may of been jealous of me moving to the USA or something and to make matters worse she put me through SSS (secondary security screening) That was a pain in the #### on my both flights at the airport.

The airline crew often has both the green and white cards in hand and you choose the one you need. Get the white one I-94. Print your name nice a clearly because that's the name they will search for in the database when you go to apply for your Social Security number.

Also get the Customs form that asks what you are bringing into the country. If you happen to have things they might construe as imports like cameras, laptops, a ton of CDs, you can write on the customs form...Household goods...with no itemization or value. Immigrants are allow to bring in their possessions with no import duty.

Queue up for the "visitors" line at immigration. Have in hand your passport, the white I-94 form, and the brown envelope. When it's your turn say I am entering on a K1 visa and they will guide you from there. They will write on your I-94 and give you back the tear-off bit. Many staple it in your passport, but Nicks was just handed back. Don't lose the I-94! It's needed for AOS (photocopy), getting SSN, and is your proof of legality for the 90 days.

If you want to read detailed descriptions of O'Hare, look up in the narrow menu bar (under the photo of the baby) and click POE. That's where you can choose O'Hare and read all the reviews.

POE is a piece of cake. Its a nervy experience none the less, US immigration officials have never been the friendliest most inteligent people I have come accross.

I actually got pulled aside at Heathrow on the way out. I was sitting in the departure lounge (one where you show passport before entering the lounge) when two men in suits and badges approached me. They were US immigration officials and they proceeded to ask me lots of questions, always friendly never threatening or suspicious. It was just weird, I guess Ilooked nervous. I was leaving behind everything I had known, friends and family. It didn't hit me until I could see the plane so I guess it was my nervous disposition that concerned them. Either that or they knew from check in that I was on a K1 and wanted to ask me questions.
