Ok, this might be a little confusing but this question has been bothering for the past days to which we are really suitable with. My husband is a full time student and about to graduate this June. He lives with his mom.

Since he doesn't have income yet we will be using a sponsor which is my mom in law.

The question is, Is there really a difference between a "CO-SPONSOR" and a "JOINT SPONSOR?"

Or this are just two words that has same meaning?

Someone please....

Thanks.

co-sponsor is a person who lives in the same househould as primary sponsor while joint sponsor is a person who is not a household or family member.for example i needed affadavite of support for my mom,i m the petitioner,so i m the primary sponsor regardless i donot work i still had to to submit affadavite of support,so i asked my husband to become co-sponsor,if I would have asked somebody else like my uncle or aunt or cousin, and they donot have the same residing address as mine they would have been joint-sponsor.

like they are two different things but have the same purpose. Which is to help the peitioner reach the 125% poverty line. A co-sponsor (resides in the same household as the petitioner) fills out the I-864A. A joint sponsor (doesn't reside in the same household as the petitioner) fills out another I-864. But no matte what, the petitioner still needs to fill out an I-864 whether or not he or she meets the 125% poverty requirements. God bless! :star:

Your mom-in-law is the "CO-SPONSOR" in your case.

Thank you very much to all of you who have answered.

Just one more question, what if the petitioner received an inheritance which is over the poverty guidelines,

what is the best thing does the petitioner have to do with it in relation with the processing of Affidavit of Support?.
