My wife has her interview date for her visa. When she gets her green card it will be a conditional 2 year greencard. Are there any more fees or suprises that the government deems necessary to throw at us? And what about my wifes Social Security number and identification? I would appreciate any info anyone could give me. Thanks.

Well with a 2 yr card she will need to adjust status in the states when she nears the 2 yrs there also for the SS card she can get it mailed to her if she selected on the DS-230 saying she wanted one. If not she can go to a SS office in the states and apply for one, even if she requested one on the 230 form it is a good idea to apply for one locally also because many have posted that they requested it on the form but never received it. The AOS is has a cost associated with it but I am not sure of the amount.

You will have to pay a filing fee ($465 + $80 biometric service fee)when you file the I-751 to remove conditions for her to receive her 10 year green card.

Then more fees if she wants to naturalize & become a US citizen.

As far as her social security number & card go.. did you check the Yes box on the DS-230 form? Even if you have checked yes I still suggest that approximately 10 working days after POE make a visit to your local SSA. Make sure she brings her passport with her and ask the agent at the office if she her details have been updated into the system and whether she has been assigned a number yet. If she has they will give her a print out of the number and the card will be ordered and sent to your address. If no number has been assigned fill in an SS-5 application form and submit it to them then & there. This will ensure that she doesnt have to wait weeks/months for her number & card to arrive

so we are going to have to pay for another biometrics test?? we already have to do that for her to be interviewed in moscow! i did check the box for her to receive her SSN but i certainly will look into going to our local office. i just dont understand why we would have to redo a biometrics test and pay another fee when we already have registered everything.

It's just the rule

Are you anywhere near your 2 year wedding anniversary? If so you could always delay her entry into the US so that she obtains an IR1 visa and you'll save yourself the cost of filing the I-751

our 1 year anniversary will be may 31st of this year. there is no way i am delaying my wifes entry, we've already been apart 10 months -- ill pay a million dollars if i have to. i just hate how the gov't sucks money away from people who try to do things legally....its no wonder there are so many illegals, most people dont have thousands of dollars to throw away on bureaucratic nonsense.

We are in the same boat as you. We will be only a month away form our 2 yr anniversary but due to me needing a surgery we will have to have her come before qualifying for the IR-1 status. Sucks but what can you do, the government needs all teh cash they can get. there are still mice that need studying LOL. Welcome to big government.

That’s how they generate money and give it to company like AIG who in turn use it for bonuses in millions to executives and CEO………..
