A question for those of you who've had this Moroccan certificate translated ...

My translator has translated "Extrait ..." as "Abridged Copy of the Criminal Record".

I'm concerned about the word "Abridged" as it suggests it's not complete. Anyone else get another translation of this word? "Extract"?

Also, for "Neant" in the body of the certificate, my translator has translated this as "Void". I think "Nothing" would be better, as that's effectively what it means. What did your translators put here?

Hi, we haven't done ours yet, but I speak french. I think Extract is fine. That's a US legal term. They always talk about Deed extracts, so it works. As for "void" I guess it depends on what the context is. Because void and nothing both have independent meanings in English. I think you're probably right though. He probably translated "vide" into "void", which means empty. I'd put "nothing", depending on the context.

Thanks so much, Dimanuni! The translator has translated "Neant" (not "Vide") as "Void".. I'll tell him to put "Nothing" as you suggest (the context is type of criminal records). Just checked an online French dictionary and it translates "le neant" as "nothing" as well. Just want this to be quite obvious to the NVC.

And also I'll tell him to put "Extract" instead of "Abridged". Thanks.

Translators are not always right lol. I had to get mine redone twice because of simple mistakes, but I had to make sure they were perfect for the Visa.

We had ours done by two different translators and they both had different translations for extrait de la fiche anthropometrique. One said Copy of Police Record and the other said Police Record Check. For neant they both translated it as none.

I've asked my translator to make the changes as per yours. I prefer that wording. I'm having trouble getting him to change NEANT to NONE or NOTHING. I asked for NOTHING but it came back as NO ENTRIES. I've asked him to change it as per most other translators of this document. Seems like a small detail but I'd rather see NONE there, right? I also asked him to change "Extract of the Criminal Record" to "Police Record Check" or "Copy of Police Report", as you suggest. "Extract of" sounds like it's not a full and complete document, whereas I assume it means it's just "extracted from" the police records.

RoyNawal, what is your Extrait du Casier Judiciaire called in the English translation? Is "Copy of the Judicial Record" okay? I'm about to send it next. My husband's is completely in Arabic - no French at all as was in the Fiche Anthropometrique.

Want to get these perfect as I'd hate to get an RFE because of the mistranslation of a single word ...
