Name change

We got married in April last year in New York and I officially changed my name to my husband's surname. The only thing I didn't get round to changing was my passport because the embassy had all my documents by the time I could afford it. Obviously my visa will be issued in the name of my passprort but when I get to the US, can I get my name changed on my passport then and if so, what will happen with my visa? Will I have to apply to get the name changed on that too or will it get done automatically?

Yes, you can change your passport in the US. The visa is only needed for entering the country. after that its irrelevant. You will get your greencard after entering the country, which you will also have to change.

Or (looking at your timeline) you still have time to get it done before your interview, as it only takes 2 weeks - saves the hassle of having to get it changed later.

My passport is still in my maiden name and they simply issued my visa in my married name with an annotation to my maiden name

Since arriving here all my official documents (green card, SSN, bank accounts, etc) have been issued in my married name
