We were all set. Just focusing on the interview paperwork. Then....we received an email stating that the only Doctor that is eligible to perform the medical in Stockholm was ill and in the hospital, not to return.

I feel terrible for the doctor and hope that he is alright. We were referred to another doctor, but they are not answering their phone or emails and we are not in Sweden right now. Our original appt was on 6/25 and the interview is 6/27.

We cant get in touch with any doctors in Sweden or Norway. We did get in touch with the doctor in Denmark and made an appt....the only one they had....but, it is on Friday, the day AFTER the interview.

I cant call the embassy, because they only will communicate through email and they havent responded to the email I sent last night.

Are we able to do the medical after the interview? My fiance will have to fly to Denmark without a passport or any other ID. Is that even possible? Can he make a copy? How much trouble are we in? We cant reschedule this interview. We will lose so much money on the tickets. I wish we were there now and could just walk into the doctors office. They are there! Just not answering phones :(

Please help to ease my mind :(. Tell me this will work out.

Thank you

I thought you had to do the medical in the country you applied from, i.e. Norway?

We did the medical about 16 hours before our interview and the embassy waited on the results. You should be safe with the day after, but I'm not sure about doing it in the wrong country. They will issue you a 221(g) which means they are not granted the visa and will do so upon receiving the medical results. Ours from Denmark took almost 2 weeks to get to Stockholm I think? I don't know why the blood results take so long there.

I think you will need an ID to fly as far as I know, but I don't believe you do to take the train. If the doctor is in CPH, it is not a bad train ride from Stockholm, if the doctor is in Aarhus, you'll need to switch trains in CPH, but it is painless and the doctor is in the city.

I would put URGENT PROBLEM WITH DOCTOR in the subject line to the Embassy, if he is out, it is possible you are not the only ones in this position.

Thank you for your reply Nola. :). Your information was very helpful.

You are probably correct with having to get the medical done in the same country. We were given bad information in the beginning and my fiance actually moved to Costa Rica in the beginning of the year and was told by several people at USCIS (tier 2 and at an infopass appoinment) that he could complete the k1 interview at the Costa Rica US Embassy...well, that was incorrect. We found out the hard way.

So, he doesn't really have an address anywhere right now because of that. The Stockholm Embassy said he could see a Dr in Sweden due to this situation...and, I still hope we can. We are going to go straight to the doctor's office when we arrive Monday. And, I did put urgent in the subject line of the email I sent the embassy.

As I was writing you, the Norway physician's office contacted us and said they have an appt on the 26th at 4 pm. Almost like your situation. It seems our stay will be a little longer...that is ok though. As long as we get approved!

I just feel terrible for all of these people that are going through this too. It is not a good feeling :(

Thank you Nola! Very good information! It is nice to be prepared.

I flew back from Sweden to Norway with Norwegian without a passport, no problem. Just bring picture ID!

As for the medical, I think you will be fine doing it after the interview but they will need the medical to approve you.

But if the Embassy says it's ok to do it in Sweden it should be!

And the embassys e-mail answering system.....ahhhhh....remember that as being a pain in the butt!!:(

Wow, if we can get through all of this, we can get through anything! It is so nice to have all of you to go to when things get tough. I feel like I am calming down a bit. Thank you so much!

Are any of you involved with your local Scandinavian Clubs? I've been to ours before briefly, but they are having a traditional bonfire and witch burning this Sunday for the Danes (the Swedes were earlier). I've convinced my husband to go and it should be interesting and nice for him to speak with a couple of other Danes. I don't know how many real Danes are going, but I know some live in the area where the club is.

It has been going super well in America too. I think I've mentioned that our neighbourhood is kind of "little Scandinavia", but we met another Norwegian neighbor. My husband was sad that she couldn't understand Danish, probably because she had been gone from Norway for so long. Is that common? My husband feels a little like he is losing the Danish.

What do you mean "not to return"? If it's the same guy I saw, Göran Bülow, I certainly hope he's OK. He was very nice, courteous and funny.

And good luck to you with your medical and interview, btw!good.gif I think there are panel physicians in Malmö and Göteborg, if that is of any help.

I believe there is a Scandinavian society of some sort in Pittsburgh. I have the link to their website, but I haven't really looked it up yet. I may do that, though. It would be fun to meet other Scandinavians, maybe speak Swedish with someone, and "compare notes". biggrin.png

If it like the one near us, they have a once a week or more afterschool Swedish program and then Swedish summer camp. I think you said you had a step daughter? I'm half tempted to send my daughter to the Swedish one since there is no comparable Danish save at the Seaman's Church in Brooklyn and that is a long trip.

My husband is just not speaking enough Danish at home. :(

Exactly, I have one step son, he's 18 and he graduated high school yesterday. And I have a step daughter, she'll be 13 at the end of July.

Whenever I try to teach my wife a little bit of Swedish, it's a lot easier for her daughter to pick up on the pronunciation. I don't think my wife will ever learn Swedish. Well I think she will be able to listen and read and understand, but I don't think she thinks she will ever learn to speak Swedish, so we'll see. We have talked about moving to Sweden some time in the future. I think it will take for us to move to Sweden for my wife to learn to speak Swedish. But who knows what will happen? I'm not taking anything for granted. Once her daughter's done with high school and college and such, I may not want to move back either.

I hardly ever speak Swedish. I have only skyped once or twice with my mom and once with my family (mormor & morfar, one of my two brothers, and some other relatives (aunts and cousins and such), that must have been Easter. I've called my parents a couple times on the phone, though, and they've called too, and they were here in Pittsburgh for a week in May, that was so nice to show them around my new home town. They are getting a new television set with a built-in Skype camera, so hopefully we can start talking more often soon. I write fairly often on a blog I have, so I don't feel like I'm losing my (Swedish) language. I keep in touch with everyone back home via Facebook and I try to keep up with the news (Sveriges Television; local Västerås newspaper's online version; Aftonbladet etc). I think that helps a lot.
