Has anyone here shipped a container from Scandinavia to USA or vice versa? I'm trying to find options (and costs) of shipping some furniture.

I got a quote from a couple of companies in Norway before I moved. I asked about shipping my bed (kingsize) and up to seven boxes of stuff. They would charge me 30.000 NOK (about 5000 dollars) for that!!! And that was without customs charges here in the US...no thanks....

But there have to be something cheaper than that....

I haven't, but I did look into it the other way around and it seemed like it would be pretty expensive. :o

We got our visa yesterday!

Congratulations!!!

When you move household gods, furniture etc you don't pay any custom charges here in the us.

I didn't bring any furniture cause it just wasn't cost efficient. But I did send quite a few huge moving boxes. But I used a Swedish company....not sure if that would help

I've found one company which would ship a 20-foot container for just under $3000, but I'm still trying to figure out if that price can be beaten. XD There's several furniture items that need moved; bed, tables, desks, etc, but I'm not going to bother if selling them and buying new would be more cost effective.

Hi! Realized I haven't been in here in a while. Nice to see people are doing well. @Jayjay how is your own personal hell progressing? Any plans for your future?

I'm still trying to get used to Texas heat. One thing, that I surely didn't think of before, that has been bugging me alot down here is that I can not for the life of me find White pepper. It was in every grocery store in Minnesota but I guess they don't use that in Texas. Extremely frustrating. I don't cook much but the Swedish dishes I do cook kind of need some white pepper to taste right.

Today I remembered that I still haven't gotten a confirmation from USCIS about my change of adress, my husband got his within 2 weeks, I still haven't gotten any now almost 2 months later. Don't know if I should be worried or not.

Other than that I am working, and working, and working... On the 1st of May I have my driving test (I have not had a drivers license, ever) and I am scared out of my mind. I just do not feel comfortable behind the wheel. With Houston traffic being what it is and my work hours it has been hard to get in enough driving. But here goes nothing I guess!

^ White pepper online :)

Izola, you are brave, I could not handle the Texas heat! I can't handle above 90 and my husband can't do above 75. I don't think he's even been anywhere hot before.

I bought white pepper in Fred Myers and at Walmart!

Fred Myers was the store that saved me when my son was crying for real proper baked beans! Heinz vita bonor i tomatsas!

Something that i gave up on finding though is fresh yeast. I've never used the dry stuff before but now i don't have a choice. It took quite a while to get kanelbullarna to look and taste like in Sweden....

Izola, driving here is liberating! I got my license in February (I'd never had one, either) and the test was VERY easy aside from the parallel parking (which is evil).

Black and Yellow! Black and Yellow!

That's right, Heinz is from Pittsburgh. Which is funny, cause always my favorite brand of ketchup. It was "luxury ketchup". My parents always bought Felix but every once in a while mom would splurge and get Heinz ketchup. When I moved out on my own I started always buying Heinz ketchup. I had no idea the company was started in Pittsburgh. Oh and their baked beans are awesome.

My wife and I live in the same neighborhood as the Heinz plant. Five minutes away. B-)

 It was 77 F (25 C) in Madison, CT the other day and my husband about had a meltdown because it was 38 F (3-4 C) here that day. He has never been anywhere hotter than Denmark and he is not ready at all. I'm going to laugh silently at him in the USVI on our vacation in a few weeks when it is like 90-95 F the same way he mocked me for needing a hat, huge scarf, parka, and gloves for April weather.

To be honest, when it gets above 85, most people don't go out during the heat of the day and sit inside with air conditioners. I know I do!
