Bleh. I haven't reported Utflytning yet because we don't have insurance yet.

Someone told me that if I move back to Norway though, I'll regain my membership in Folketrygden immediately? If so, I'll have no problem reporting Utflytning immediately, lol.

Married since 03/02/2011, AOS from F-1 visa, green card granted 05/24/2011.
Blessed with a healthy baby boy, 08/19/2011! We get to keep our family together! Thank you! smile.png

I think it depends on the duration of your stay overseas.

Have you looked into " frivillig medlemskap i folketrygden" while living in the US? I don't know much about it however it might be worth looking into if it applies to you of course.

The rules are a bit different in Denmark - I wrote about it in this topic a while ago about a Danish guy and I'd hate for anyone to pay doubles taxes because they forgot to report that they were moving.

I'm fairly certain I don't qualify for frivillig medlemskap i Folketrygden. However, I wrote UDI and asked about those exceptions, and they got back to me.

It's not exactly a guarantee, and it's not like we're planning on up and moving anytime soon, but it does comfort me greatly to know that the option may certainly be there! :D

Jay, I could do cartwheels, thanks for mentioning this possibility and making me look closer at things! :D

I think it's more complicated than that, but I'm not sure. From what I understand you need to live in Norway for three years to regain full rights in Folketrygden:

http://www.advokatenhjelperdeg.no/artikler/taper-trygderettigheter-ved-flytting/

And I also think you are supposed to report utflytting if you stay abroad for more than 6 months:

http://www.skatteetaten.no/no/Skjemaer/Melding-om-flytting-til-utlandet/

I reported utflytting before I moved, but I will still have to pay taxes to Norway for three years before they release me... Luckily Norway and the US have a tax agreement, meaning I won't be taxed twice. (Or at least that's what I think, I'm still a bit confused about taxes.)

I'll probably report Utflytning when I go home this May. I'm certainly not doing it until we can get insurance here, but we should be able to by then.

NAV's website isn't loading for me at the moment, so I can't get to the page where I thought I read about it, but I'll try to find it. Basically, it said if I move back to Norway with the intent of staying for more than 12 months, I'm immediately a member again.

Når er du medlem i folketrygden?

Bosatt i Norge – pliktig medlem i folketrygden

Glad it could be of use :D It was literally just something I read half a year ago that popped up in my head as I read your previous post.

Yes, I think what my links refer to is this part:

"Enkelte trygdeytelser krever at du har vært medlem i folketrygden en viss tid. Du kan lese mer om dette under hver enkelt ytelse."

Table 6.1 here gives a summary of how long you must have been a member to get different forms of support:

Give them a call! See if you have to wait until the interview is scheduled or not.

In Stockholm the doc recommended me to book it when we got a case closed at NVC so we wouldn't feel stressed. The medical is valid for a year unless u got a condition of some kind, then it's 6 months.

I just called USCIS for the first time in my life. Eh. I am annoyed because the embassy spelled my wife's name wrong at some point. Today I got two notices of action (basically saying the production of my green card has been ordered) and my wife's name is still spelled wrong. I don't know why. She sent in copies of her birth certificate and passport when we started this whole process.

I first talked to one person but he couldn't do nothing to change it, so I got transferred. A woman got my info and said someone will call me back within 48 to 72 hours.

You haven't gotten your greencard yet Bork? I arrived a few weeks after you and I got it last week, I think 8 days after POE.

I'm right now dealing with a whole lot of frustration. We are right now living with a friend of mine, while they are absolutely adorably nice, it is stressful to live with someone else. Since my husband has almost exclusively had jobs where he drives for a living he has been looking into those for here too. Only to find out that we need to have lived here for 30 days to be able to get a license in Texas since his Minnesota license has expired. I have been hired but don't start until the 13th of feb. And to get an apartment, in the area where we want one, requires quite a bit of background checking and of course a few paystubs.

I got lucky enough to get a good hourly pay straight off the bat, but... don't start working for awhile yet. We were hoping to be out in early March, but that's just looking a bit negative right now.I basically just need to vent cus its bugging the heck out of me. He can't apply for a job until he has a Texas license, and there might be issues with the driving record since he's been in Sweden for the last five years so it might be hard for him to get a job... GAAH! I mean okay, we had a bit of money saved up but a lot went to the application process and then we've bought a car since we got here. We're going to have to buy another one by the time we actually start working and I get a license (haven't driven a car in my life).

Okay - recap... grumpy and frustrated over money, living situation and driving. Sigh.

Sorry... just really had to vent to someone other than the hubby

Don't worry Izola, that's something this place is good for in my humble opinion; venting. That sounds like a messed up situation. I'd be annoyed too.

And no, no green card yet.
