Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Wow.

<------- This mind?

Boggled.

@Bork - the sales manager for the store I'll most likely be going to when I get over has the last name Stalin... me and my mother have had intense discussions about why you would keep that name.

Hehe, yeah when I worked at a school here in Västerås I had a student whose last name was Stalin (not pronounced the same way though; emphazis on the second syllable).

Tickets booked! Leaving on the 10th of January. Scary. Trying to clean up and box up now. Last 2 weeks will be spent at my parents house for some quality "mum time". I got my passport back really quickly, interview on the Tuesday and arrived in the mail on the Friday, but I would NOT be counting on that quick of a send off. Obviously I didn't and it screwed me slightly ;)Didn't think about the fact that my monthly pay for December would be lower since I have my last shift on the 26th and nearly had a heart attack when I opened the paystub today... Good thing I'm not paying rent this month!@Bork - the sales manager for the store I'll most likely be going to when I get over has the last name Stalin... me and my mother have had intense discussions about why you would keep that name.

Awesome! Have a great trip!!

When I interviewed, there was a guy interviewing for a non-immigrant visa named Stahlen - Guess how the CO pronounced it? Lol

My wife's aunt and uncle have been visiting Hawaii this week. I've met them countless times but only at their house in Koreatown in LA, so this was the first time I met them outside their usual setting.

What I find funny is that the first things they wanted to do when they got here was to 1. Find a Korean church to go to, 2. Find a Korean supermarket to shop at, and 3. Find a good selection of Korean restaurants to eat at while here. I found all three

I tried to take them to a Hawaiian bbq place today, but they refused, as there was a Korean bbq place on the same street. Aside from tourist sights and souvenir shops, the only non-Korean place they've requested to go was Wal-Mart.

When my parents go on vacation the last thing they want is to eat kjøttboller and fiskekaker.

My husband's the same usually, but we're on our first post-visa international trip visiting my brother in Canada and were looking for Danish food but can't find any here in Vancouver, actually not any Scandanavian restaurants either, seems like Seattle is our best bet.

Just wanted to let yinz know I'm now safely in Pittsburgh. Everything has gone extremely smooth - way above my expectations. My Christmas Eve today (which is when we start celebrating back home) has been nothing like Christmas in Sweden... but that's how I wanted it to be anyway. Mullin's diner for breakfast (the Hungry Man breakfast made me a very un-hungry man lol), we got julmust at IKEA, nice lil visit with the in-laws... Now drinking the julmust with choc chip cookies and WWE raw wrestling - Xmas eve in America! :)

God Jul - Merry Christmas everyone. Seriously, I love you guys. <3

I had my first Danish Christmas last night complete with dancing around the tree and singing whilst my daughter put her fingers in her ears and begged everyone to stop.

Today I get a celebration with like 23 of my husband's relatives and there will be pickled herring. :help: Actually, I am looking forward to it - he has got the sweetest and nicest family I have ever met. :luv: :luv:

I'm going to the store tomorrow (if they are open) to pick up some more uniquely Danish holiday things for next Christmas. (I've already got a supply of God Jul ribbon).

How is everyone else's holidays going?

That's great Nola. My Christmas is coming along nicely. Something that isn't coming along nicely is my sleep. I haven't been sleeping well at all the last 2.5 weeks, and now being in a new time zone hasn't exactly helped. I imagine it's going to take a week or two for me to get my inner clock to start functioning again.

Merry Christmas to all fellow Scandinavian VJ'ers!

A GREAT update on our CR-1 process:

In some way, my visa was sitting at the post office for some time without my knowledge. I never received the first "Rekommenderad försändelse" paper slip from Posten to be able to pick it up, so I was surprised when I received a "Påminnelsebrev" (reminder letter) last week which I assumed/hoped would be the visa. And sure... the visa was issued in early December.

I am most likely leaving at the end of January 2013 (date unknown), POE will be LAX.

Congrats Owl, and congrats Bork! Nola - glad you got to have a real Scandinavian Christmas!

My wife and I both missed it tremendously, and it did not make it any better when skyping my family in Norway during their Christmas eve ribbe and pinnekjøtt dinner.

Mele kalikimaka as they say in Hawaiian is not how we plan to spend the next Christmases lol. It just simply does not satisfy my Viking soul.

In a wonderful play of irony however, I received my green card in the mail yesterday, on Christmas eve!
