So when I was at the embassy I thought I was smart, and put my mothers address on the envelope for my passport so my name c/o hers. Thinking that since its been taking long for people to get passports and what not it would be better to do that since I'm moving there on the 28th. Boy did that come back to bite me! My passport has now shown up and my mother can't pick it up for me since she doesn't have my ID. Of course I can't send her my passport to pick it up with... since that's what she's getting. The last day for the package to wait for me is the 28th and I'll probably be getting there after they close. Darn it! So now I have to mail my mum my ID tomorrow and hope that I don't need it for a week or two, and that it doesnt get lost in the mail...

Enjoy every last bit of it - I never got to fully appreciate Norway during the late stages of the process since my visa delivery was delayed. Spent my last two weeks freaking out, and last two days packing in a hurry.

Me too (the bold part). You'd think since it's been like 18 months since we got married, I'd be more prepared to move out, but oh no! I am 110% sure I have some sort of mental deficiency that prevents me from doing stuff until the last minute.

Mailing mum my ID later today so she can pick it up for me. Thats what I get for thinking!

Talk about packing... jeeze. We're leaving our apartment on the 28th, we have sold most of our furniture already, but there's still some left that I don't know what to do with. Stuff everywhere, I try to pack and.. yeah. Ick! By this time before a normal move I have usually done most of the "moving out" cleaning. Have yet to start that and of course I'm working every day (besides christmas) before we move out. So this will be awesome!

Good luck to you Bork! I hope you are better at preparing than we seem to be! ;)

Lol thanks.

I'm going to donate the majority of my furniture. Most of it is IKEA anyway and there is an IKEA in PIttsburgh - my wife's got a house full of furniture so that's not a problem really, we might look for something when we move (again, yay) some time next year (yes my wife wants to move to a new place). I'm not a Blocket.se type of guy so for me it's easier to either donate it or take it to återbruket. My realtor suggested Läkarmissionen, he said they come pick stuff up, which will be a huge deal for me since I don't have a car or a drivers license for that matter. And even if I won't get much (any) money for the stuff I donate, I'd rather give it to a charity than to just throw it away. In Västerås we also have Stadsmissionen, they are my backup plan in case Läkarmissionen can't take care of my furniture.

I'm the total opposite - I had already shipped a lot of my stuff a month before hand and had like 90% of my things already in the suitcases a month before. I figured I might not need my summer clothes in DK anyways. I even had the bike all wrapped up. Everything in my house is labelled with a label maker and I already have our NVC paperwork together with little flip tabs and all. Maybe a little too prepared.

My husband is the postponer. It is good I get to stay on top of him here, which I try to do without being a total nag.

I'm not too sure how he is going to be in the finally weeks. He's lived in this apartment complex for 9 years since he was 18 and has never moved out of this 5 mile radius! Maybe the thought of delicious Starbucks will be enough to distract him.

I'm just worried that I'm going to have to go back before him if I get pregnant.

Wow! I am really envious of you.

My parents would help me but they're working full time (more than full time actually). Luckily I have a friend who's helping me out a lot, in fact the same guy that convinced me to sign up on the Pittsburgh Penguins message board, which is where I later met my wife. I am so thankful that I can call this wonderful guy my friend. I owe him so much.

Mr. Borkstrom, get your license ASAP! It's not scary driving in Pittsburgh, honestly, outside of rush hour. The roads are wide, and once you get familiar with the area, it's np. I'm working on getting mine these days. But I am... an island without it. The bus system is AWFUL HORRIFIC TERRIBAD. I'd say a license is your #1 priority once you're here.

Married since 03/02/2011, AOS from F-1 visa, green card granted 05/24/2011.
Blessed with a healthy baby boy, 08/19/2011! We get to keep our family together! Thank you! smile.png

Lol reminds me of the last time my wife and I entered at LAX. We both had to go through the visitors line since I was on the VWP. We got there right after two jumbo jets from China. Citizens line was cleared in 20 minutes. Visitors line had moved maybe about two inches since then.. After 45 minutes and no closer to the immigration booth, my wife stormed up to one of the CBP officers "excuse me. I have been on a 12 hour plane ride and have been waiting in this line forever. I need an iphone charger. I'm a US citizen if that helps."

CBP officer looked at her in disbelief, went through her own private purse and said "here, there's an outlet in the back..."

Sorry about the long wait missk, at least now you're here!!

We were always told to go through citizens line....

I agree . Its fun driving over here ... I feel much more relaxed driving over here than I did when we lived in England as at least we drive on the right side of the road in the US!!! Last trip I did was from Ithaca NY to Newark NJ when I had to give my sis in law a lift. I drove back in the pitch dark without a sat nav just following the cars compass lol. I got back in just under 5 hours,,,
