Even if it's not in a factory-packaged bag?

Shouldn't be a problem. I've brought licorice in a paper bag from the pick yourself candy section in the Danish stores. Bring them in a zip lock bag or airtight container otherwise they will get stale, that happened to me the first time I came back with some. My husband brought me 1 kilo of licorice fudge (the only Scandinavian kind I can eat because the regular salty is way to strong for me with all the ammonia) for a birthday present. He didn't bring any salty/ammonia licorice for himself, but we did find some Finnish salty licorice at World Market/Costplus the other day.

I highly doubt you'll have any problems. I brought kilos of Melkesjokolade, Daim and Firkløver. I just declared it as "candy - $60" on the blue customs form and the officers didn't even check to see what kind of candy it was or whether or not they were packed.

As long as you remember to check yes on the "food" question and write "candy" on the back of the form you will not get in any trouble with customs what so ever.

Licorice is not a danger to American fauna or agriculture no matter how it's packed :)

I've been here for 3 days now and despite having loads of things that need to get sorted out, and not even having seen my wife yet, I just have this huge smile on my face all the time. I showed up unannounced at my MIL's apt here in LA yesterday. She opened the door and just screamed lol. Then she made me a huge dinner.

Mmmm lakrits. I have always travelled back and forth to the US with loads of lösviktsgodis in my bags. This time I expect I'll have a bunch for myself plus the biggest bag of Turkisk peppar I can find for my former manager that we'll be staying with to begin with.

I'm gearing up to go to Stockholm now myself. Have the interview tomorrow morning at 8:30 so we pretty much have to leave today and stay at a hotell, unless we want to leave home around 4 tomorrow morning... Oh well, atleast I'll be spending the night at Villa Källhagen within walking distance of the embassy. After the confused email conversations I've had with them, where they requested an ORIGINAL copy of my divorce decree in English (pretty darn impossible to get an original in English of a 10 year old decree) I'm expecting the worst, heh.

Wish me luck! (I feel like I might need it)

That's awesome :) Can't complain about the beautiful, sunny weather either! My MIL wrote this morning and said they had 10 inches of snow where they live on Zealand. Crazy to think about especially when it's summerlike weather here today in LA ;)

I think we got about 6 inches in Jutland. Whee! Two buses tried to pass each other on the street earlier and both got stuck in the snow. Everyone had to get off and walk in the cold. Brrrrrr. I'm hoping that we'll have a white Christmas, but with my luck it will just rain.

Oh I sure hope it's a white Christmas there! We actually have tickets to fly to DK on Friday, however my husband still hasn't received word about his EAD/AP, so looks like we'll be changing them. Waiting until the end of the week to see if we hear something so that we can determine whether to change the date closer to Christmas or just move it to end of Jan or Feb. Really frustrating. I was in DK two years ago at the end of Nov and it snowed the entire time I was there. I've never been so cold in my life but the snow was certainly preferable to the yucky gray and rainy weather!

Finally home again, Villa Källhagen is indeed a nice hotel. They upgraded us to a junior suite that was almost as big as our current apartment, so that was nice! A bit on the expensive side in my opinion but can't beat the 3 minute walking distance to the embassy. I had heard that the breakfast would be slightly bad from my stepsister but we actually thought it was really good. What I have to complain about (I sell textiles for a living) is the cheap a$$ duvets they used :P

Interview time was 8:30 this morning, we were there at 8 and got in line to get through security. When we had been standing there for a few minutes my husband decided to read the sign and realized we were in the wrong line. The other one was empty... So after shivering out there for awhile it was nice to get in. Was the first one to be interviewed to get in there which was nice. It was packed in there since apparently some philharmonic (sp?) orchestra was going on a US tour so they all needed visas. First guy went through the papers they had when I came up to the window, asked me to fill out my address and put on the stamps on my envelope. He didnt ask me for my divorce papers, that they had demanded yet another copy of (eventhough I saw that he had 2 copies of them in there). So I gave them to him and said "you guys requested this" he says oh and just put it among the rest and asks me if I have something else I wanna give him, I said no.

So by 8:30 we were done in the first window, then the others waiting for interviews started to show up. We sat down and waited, my stressbag of a husband started to get annoyed by the waiting. At 9 or so he started pacing and glaring at the people in the windows while I was hissing at him to sit down. Pretty much 9:10 I was called to my window, swore that my paperwork was accurate and signed the DS-230. Lady asked how long we've been married, I said since Halloween 2005 she said Oh... The only other questions were if we had been living together that entire time and why we were moving back. So I basically stood there and waited while she went through my paperwork. She said you're good to go, your visa should be with you within 2 weeks. I remembered that I still had the original police report and gave that to her and then I left. So pretty much after understanding that we had been married for 7 years and had been living together for that entire time she was done with questions. After all the hassle I've been going through with the damn divorce papers it felt good :)

We were out of there by 9:20ish. The line to get in was then about 30+ people long. All in all very painless, and I know that I swore and signed so I'm happy! Hah
