Thanks for your input guys. It could be a simple mistake on the embassy's part.

However, I spoke to an immigration attorney as well who said a lot of visa stamps are delayed because if an applicant has lived in the US for more than 6 months, they also need a police clearance from the FBI, the same way all applicants need a police clearance from anywhere they've lived for 6 months plus.

She said these are supposed to be completed before the interview even begins, but once in a while they get botched or delayed (I had my visa interview pushed up by a week). She said the visa number can be issued, but that the supervisor of the IV unit always has to to approve before the actual visa stamp is placed in the passport. At which point the CO probably realized that the FBI check wasn't in yet. I was always under the impression that an FBI background check was conducted by the USCIS at the petition level, but apparently, this doesn't occur until the case is at the embassy.

Apparently, this is a very common reason for delay, and usually delays printing of the visa by 1 - 2 weeks.

Whatever the reason for the delay, I won't be getting on a plane this weekend. Anyway, Nothing I can do but wait!

Forgive my venting guys. Just need to.. Vent. Lol. I called the DOS again, and the lady told me "Don't worry, everything is ok with the visa." To which I replied "Are you sure? It has been 15 days, and the embassy said it hasn't been sent yet, and to wait for them to contact me in a week." The lady replied "Don't worry, they will send it. Everything is ok, when it's ready, they will mail it." I asked if she's able to tell whether or not it's been printed and everything, to which she said "No, just that everything is ok."

No worries. I can't believe that you have gone through so much ####### with the NVC, and now this! You'd think that they would put some note on your case file not to screw up anymore. :bonk: If you lived near Ålesund, I'd invite you over for Thanksgiving. My husband bought a whole turkey and it is just the two of us here.

Thanks! My mother's side of the fam is from Haram, right outside Ålesund. I live in Oslo. Anyway, yea, I was doing great at the USCIS level and had my petition approved earlier than expected. Since the case went over to DOS, it's been delay after delay after delay - All due to NVC and consulate errors (as far as I know). :bonk:

Enjoy turkey day!

I am jealous you were able to find a turkey! All they had was turkey breasts at the supermarket and I do not like the white meat. :crying:

No need to apologize. It's good to vent. If I hadn't had this place to vent this summer I'd've gone bat$hit insane.

Thanks Haha. As frustrated as I am, I think yelling at the embassy staff or DOS reps would be very counter-productive. Not like I can say "Screw you guys, I'm switching to Verizon!" or "This is horrible customer service, I'm moving to Canada!"

Haha, that's awesome! Imagine the looks on their faces. ;)

Sup peeps?

I haven't posted as much in these threads in a while, especially now that I have my visa. Thought I'd bring yunz up to date, for those of you who know me and may be wondering what's going on.

I talked to a realtor today, he's coming Monday to look at my apartment (which I am putting up for sale). There's a legal form I can sign so that a third party can sign the contract instead of me once the realtor has found a buyer. So I can get my mom or dad to sign the contract for me, I don't have to stick around and do that myself.

I have my sights set on flying to my new home in Pittsburgh, PA on Friday December 21st. Not sure yet if I'll be able to find plane tickets, but that's what I'm hoping for. That's one month from today.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, ok? :)

That's great! So looks like you'll be able to finish the year in Pittsburgh. I can't imagine what a relief it must be to have the visa in hand, and a clear plan for your apartment sale!

It's a nice feeling. And on top of that, my uncle (and his family and my grandma) got me plane tickets as a wedding present last summer. So basically I will book the flight and he'll pay for it. Can't get any better than that. :D

How poetic - December 21st, 2012 is the end of the Mayan long calender, and the beginning of a new era according to the Mayans.
