Shhhhhh..... Don't tell my husband he can buy that in America!

Hahahaha.

I love leverpostei! I had my dad mail me some when I was an exchange student in the US. Thought I'd serve it to my host family as a special treat. They all vacated the kitchen as I translated the ingredients list.

My wife ALMOST tried it. She too unfortunately demanded I tell her what it was before eating it. So close...

Leverpostei is Braunschweiger over here. The ingredients vary slightly, mainly in the type of meat that goes into it, but it's mostly the same. I'm very happy to have found it, so I can feed it to my son! :D It took me SO LONG to find the right pickles though (the bread and butter ones are the best, iirc).

You couldn't pay me to eat fiskeboller or fiskekaker though, even in Norway. Yuck.

I order Scandinavian food from Willy's (scandinavianfoodstore.com) and I've found a nice butcher shop in Pittsburgh for sheep meat/lamb (Strip District Meats) and one place with decent fish (Wholey's, also in the strip district), though the fish overall in Pittsburgh leaves a lot to be desired. Not surprisingly, given our inland location.

My husband has tried everything Norwegian, from Oslokebab to leverpostei. He loves Oslokebab, doesn't like leverpostei, and actively hates the kaviar, lol.

The Strip is a neat place. You can find a lot of good stuff there.

Where do you live? What part of town (if you don't mind my asking)? My wife lives in Troy Hill but she works over on the west side, out towards the airport (I forget what the area is called. Might be Westwood or something like that. She wants to move to a different part of town. Troy Hill is nice in that it's close to dahntahn but you don't have to live dahn there. But my wife has lived there for basically all her life and she says it's not like it used to be, so we'll most likely look for a new place as soon as possible after I've moved in with her.

We live in Morningside, and I really love it. It's got a nice community feel, sidewalks so I can take walks with my kid, a couple of playgrounds... It's close to Waterworks where there's stores and eateries, and close enough to downtown. :)

On a separate note, holy cow, I hope nobody takes advice about immigration from the Americans Living In Norway Facebook Group! There's a thread right now where Norwegians are openly talking about moving back to the US with expired green cards and not surrendering them and such... O.o

Great, thanks for the information!

I imagine it does feel good, just a tinge of sadness when people ask and there's still no set date. But the happiness of soon definitely outweighs it! My husband had a surprise party last week with friends and another with his family. Not good bye! Like you said, see you later :)

We want to get the documents ready way ahead of time. For those of you who are Danes, can you get a birth certificate in English? Is there a long form one like we have in America? My husband said he's never heard of it...but I'm not sure.

He can request one online and in English (actually in Danish and English on one sheet). Took one week to get delivered. Birth certificate contains name, date of birth, national id number, parents names, place of birth, church where baptized, and date of baptism.

You can get an English police record from local police station in 5 minutes. He can also get his military record in English too, took one week to get delivered.

Thanks! Sending an e-mail off about getting a copy of the not-drafted after the medical exam record thingy is just fine?

You're welcome! Are you asking if it's ok to get a copy of not-drafted after he gets his medical done?

I had my interview the same day as your husband, and had to send some additional paperwork after the interview to get approved. They still managed to send my passport on the 7th, and I received it here in Norway on the 13th. I had to pick it up at my local post office, since it was sent registered (rekommandert in Norwegian).

Mmm, no...I meant is it ok to request by e-mail in general? My husband sent off the email so I guess we'll find out.

It was in relation to this, but he didn't know what it was called in Danish:

Not Drafted or Unfit for Service

Persons who have attended a medical examination (Session) required by the Danish military, but who have not been drafted for service (or ever worked for the Danish military or the Danish Emergency Management Agency), or who have been found unfit for service, must obtain a "Certification (Draft Board)". Please see contact information below.

The certificate will state whether the person was simply "not drafted", or if found "unfit for service", it will give a brief explanation of the reason.

Thanks for the information! I saw that you received your on the 13th, yay! I really don't understand why it took so long for them to mail it out in the first place since he was approved on the 1st. As with everything else in the bureaucracy of this journey it just sat on a desk for 12 days. Really annoyed with the Stockholm embassy will definitely have to revise the review, just venting :)
