I think you'll be fine. This is what the US-Norway reciprocity schedule says about military records: Available. A service record, tjenesteattest, may be obtained from Vernepliktsverket by phone: 815 55 580; by email: postmottakvpv@mil.no; or by writing to Vernepliktsverket, Postmottak, 2617 Lillehammer, Norway.

Since you were never enrolled in any training/testing, you probably have no record. You could contact them and ask I guess.

I emailed the military a couple of weeks ago and they still haven't answered. If they're not going to answer I'm not going to bother with any document. If they ask for it at the interview, should I just say I never served?

Yes.

I wasn't asked though.

Yes. They asked me, and I just said no. Should they for some reason still want the document, you'll be able to send it in after the interview. I doubt it though.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

The Department of Homeland Security messed up with spelling my name incorrectly at POE, so I have an appointment with USCIS in Detroit on December 14th. Hopefully they will be able to correct it relatively quickly,.. cause I got a job!!! :dancing::dancing: After 3 weeks in the country, I got a job!! :dancing: Now, I don't want everything to be messed up, so do not have a car, drivers license or bank account yet..waiting for my name to be corrected. If I don't it will be wrong in all official documents I sign,..and that can cause problems later. I notified the employer right away that there was issues with that, and they said they would wait for me. Not a super job, but it's a start and in a rapidly growing company, so there is possibilities for advancement in not so distant future. Call center, taking incoming calls. Seems like a very nice place to work,..I've been there twice. Both times I was walked around the facility and introduced to everyone.. hehe. Hoping I'll be able to start early January.

I apologize if this has been answered yet, but with most interviews, it looks like people are told to leave their passports at the consulate, and they are mailed back to the Applicant (I am the USC), now with Sweden closing its boarders, you are told to bring your passports with you when you cross the border. (I know the train in Malmo has been known to hound as well as the boats).... So, if my husband is in Copenhagen and Danish, how is he supposed to get home without a passport?!

Or do they not take the Scandinavian passports for this reason?

It's the Swedish police checking who's coming into Sweden, not out. He has his passport going for the interview, which is when he'll be checked. He doesn't need to show it going back home.

My boy and I didn't show passport or any ID at all when we took a flight from Copenhagen to Stockholm and back again. Neither way we showed anything.

Good to know both replies! I know we just took the boat from Germany to DK last week, and they kinda hounded us, asking if we were danish and when we replied in Danish, they did not even look at our docs... so I guess its just a minor risk.

Also, a EU ID such as his DL's is enough to travel within EU.

Only in Scandinavia. In the rest of Europe you need a passport or national ID card for most purposes (checking in to hotels etc).

Yes, ofc you are correct. Disregard the "EU" in my previous answer.

They'll be okay between Sweden and Denmark.

Congrats, that's great! A good thing about doing IR1/CR1 visa is that you can get a job at once. Not looking forward to being unemployed for several months (I'm doing K1).

Indeed, it is one of the upsides to use CR1 visa. Also I can get a bank account, drivers license and everything else relatively fast.. once the error  made by DHS is fixed.

I emailed the military a couple of weeks ago and they still haven't answered. If they're not going to answer I'm not going to bother with any document. If they ask for it at the interview, should I just say I never served?

I finally got an answer, and they said a document that states I never served does not exist since I was never conscripted. They also said they have never heard of such a document being needed for a US visa. So there's that.
