At least bring a copy of his divorce papers if possible. They have the right to ask for originals but a copy is better than nothing I guess, if they even ask.

I don't know how it works since you two are already married, but for K-1s they ask for those papers sometimes. You should always bring the original (meaning a certified copy of the divorce decree, signed by a judge).

I guess my visa might be denied then :( We have tried before to get his divorce decree but since he doesnt live in that same state anymore he couldnt get it.

Not saying you'll get denied at all, maybe they won't even care to ask for it anyway.

Sounds odd that you can't get it just because he left the state. My man left the state where he got married and divorced and it was never an issue to get two certified and signed copies (one for him and one for me).

Must be different from state to state then. =/

What if he travles to that state and meet up in person? .... I also think it sounds weird they won't provide it because he is not living in that state anymore.

It´s a bit too far to travel back to the state were he got married and divorced.

It might be your only option though. You can go to the interview with what you have. You will not be denied there but you MIGHT be asked to provide the documents and then he has to go there to get it and send it to the embassy and then they'll approve you if everything else is fine.

They might accept what you have. You just never know with the embassy and what they want.

It took several weeks from the state we ordered it from. It took 4-5 weeks, might be different in other states though.

If he orders it now and you don't have it in time for the interview then at least you have it a few weeks later so you can send it to the embassy if they ask you for it.

Hopefully it will work! Would seem weird if it didn't! :)

I´m a happy camper :content::D Talked to my husband (he woke up and came online lol) and I talked to him about the divorce decree that I´ve been asking you guys if I need.... He told me that he was gonna bring that up today. He was getting the house "ready" (nesting just like a pregnant woman ;)) for my arrival and cleaned stuff out. And what did he find if not the old divorce decree :dancing: He just have to send that over to me and I´m all set  Thank you all for your help!

That's great! I'm curious the state that doesn't have a system to send them out though. We needed my American divorce decree for my CR1 and I requested multiple copies from a state I hadn't lived in in years. Neither of us were even in the state when the divorce was finalized as we filed notices of non-appearance, so it would be really inconvenient not being able to get it from afar. I also needed a copy to get married.

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.
