Anyone have any advice regarding the medical? My interview will be in Stockholm, should I have the medical there too or can I do that here in Oslo?

How do I go about scheduling this medical? Is there a list of «accepted» doctors, or will my fastlege do?

What happens during the medical? How thorough is it exactly? I don't have any horrible diseases or radical tattoos, but it would be very interesting to get an idea of what to expect, what to bring etc.

Send an email to the embassy in stockholm and ask them if you have any doctors to chose from in Norway. If not there are 3 different doctors in sweden to chose from, Check the consulate info under swedens portal here.

You can't schedule an appointement until you have heard from the embassy. But what I did was i got in touch with the doc in stockholm to see if we could do anything in advance and the only thing was to make sure all our shots was up to date, my son had to get a couple of shots so weve done that.

At the medical thingy they will do some blood work, they will also x-ray your lungs plus an ordinary check up.

The doc in Stockholm said it was fairly easy to get an appointment with them, not that long of a waiting time unless it was around some of the holidays.

I'm not really sure what you need to bring, besides papers showing your shots and stuff like that but i'm sure the letter from the embassy will tell you all you need to know when that time comes. I should get my letter in a not too distant future, I can let you know then what it said if you haven't gon any other aswers by then.

Trader Joe's/Whole Foods will save you! Also, Ikea has a lot of Norwegian and Swedish food.

Pittsburgh känns som en bra stad. Jag längtar.

Does anyone know of any good online communities for Finnish people in the US? The only forums I've seen seem to be mostly dead and I definitely can't find any meetup groups around Louisville

People who have already made the move from Scandinavia to the US, how did you go about moving stuff (books, CD's, clothes, your belongings etc)?

I haven't made "the big move" yet, but I did move for 5 years for school. I actually managed to fit nearly all things important into two large suitcases that i brought over. After the first year I went back to Norway for the summer with two empty big suitcases. I brought the rest over in those. of course.. I still had my parents' house to store everything at. presently, I have half my things in Norway, a quarter of them at my aunt's house in San Diego and the rest in my in-laws' garage in Los Angeles. I'll probably get together another two big suitcases and a flat rate postal service box to ship the rest.

The fact that I also now have a bunch of stuff that needs shipping from California to Hawaii is something I haven't even begun to think about yet, except for the idea I had once of buying a car in California, shipping it to Hawaii with all my belongings inside lol.
