We just booked our tickets back for the summer to Denmark yesterday, it was around $900 a person. We found a rental car for only 240 for a week a half though so it will be easy for us to take the ferry to Norway too. I am excited for that and making a super quick stop in Iceland. I figure with Norway, I should at least visit a country if I am going to have a degree in the language.

We decided to just put off citizenship until we get back.

That is a REALLY good price! I'm looking at prices for just me for the summer and I have so far not seen anything under $1000.

I have paid that the last 3 times we have gone there, and he is 10 so he isn't really cheaper then me.

Tjek momondo.dk that's were I look and then find my tickets. I think we'll just do a return ticket when we move so I can get it at that price again and then I'll cancel the return once I'm there.

I'm still waiting for Green Card or interview. I probably won't be hearing anything until the summer and I'm trying to figure out if I dare to book a flight back to Sweden for a few weeks or not. Pretty annoying. And I thought that if I get the an appointment I could just re-schedule but apparently you need to be pretty much dying for that to be granted and you'll be thrown back at the end of the line. So I'm holding off booking the flight for now.

Yeah, that sounds risky if you're pretty much not allowed to re-schedule. But then again wouldn't out of the country be a valid reason for re-scheduling?

In regards to positive things, I know we have a couple of people on here waiting for their interview at the embassy to be scheduled. And we also have a couple of people, myself included, waiting to hear if they've been approved. And at least one interview next week. So lots going on in the Scandinavian thread next week. :) Happy thoughts and fingers crossed for everyone in the process.

Usually I'm able to find really cheap flights with Icelandair for way less than $1000. I don't know if they only have first and business class tickets left or if the price will change at some point. I usually use Kayak but I'll give momondo a try!

Thank you for the update mallafri, glad to see that things are moving forward for us Scandinavians :)

Iceland's amazing. If you have some time there, stop by the Blue Lagoon. It's these hot springs not too far from the airport. It's pretty awesome. :)

I hope so too :) Worst case it will be just me as we're going back to Sweden for Christmas as well.

That's nice you can spend Christmas with your family.

How much vacation does your job give you? I'm so nervous about that since we are pretty much spoiled up here compared to over there ;)

I think the next trip we are going to do the multi-day stopover too. It seemed like a lot of the stuff you could do with multiple days wasn't really easy with a 14 month old. This time it might just be the Blue Lagoon because we aren't staying overnight and I think my kids would really like it.

Summer time is hard with prices. We are flying with Iceland air and they were definitely the cheapest by at least 300-400 a ticket, especially flying out of Minnesota. I love them so much.

Yeah that was something I was super worried about too. I am lucky in a way because I work in a school so when school's out I'm off. Bad thing is that I get paid by the hour so when school is out, like during snow days etc, I don't get paid :P My husband got 3 weeks off, when he started he only got 2 weeks. My husband has 15 days that he can take whenever he wants and then he is off 11 federal holidays a year.

I'm mostly worried about when we decide to have a baby... In Sweden I'd be able to be home a year and here it's like 6-9 weeks or something like that. I don't want my super tiny baby to go be with a nanny. I've been an au pair, I have met other au pairs and nanny's, I know how bad they can be.... Some are great, some not so much.

Yeah I normally fly towards the end of the summer or other off seasons. I love Icelandair. Sure food is not included, you have to pay for it and it's super expensive. But I just eat a lot before the flight, bring snacks and then I'm good. Awesome service, great cabin crew and usually a good selection of movies. And I LOVE that they let you have 2 pieces of checked luggage.

I have only flown once and that was with Norwegian. Only just over 550 USD back and forth between CPH and LAX (including check-in bag) and the flight was so smooth and comfortable. And I didn't have to change planes or anything, I really couldn't be more happy and will definitely fly with them next time too.

But just like with all other airlines it gets more expensive in summer of course. If you don't have a specific date you have to travel then I would probably recommend to get a "last minute" ticket, if possible.

Yeah, this is something that really worries me too. I mean you hear such horror stories. But then again they do have a lot of federal holidays, so maybe that makes up for it a little bit.

Yes, there's a lot of cool stuff to do in Iceland. The Blue Lagoon, nature's amazing, you can go whale watching. If you go like December to mid-March, you can usually see the Northern Lights outside Reykjavik. It's a pretty cool place.

Are they good to fly with long-haul, Iceland Air? I've never actually flown with them but was thinking of flying with them with a stop over so I get to see Iceland again. It's so beautiful there.
