Did you guys keep your bank account(s) in your home country when moving to the States?

I just got an email from my bank back home, wanting me to fill out either a W-8 or a W-9 and send to them. I DON'T want to be double-taxed / pay taxes of my savings from Denmark (I've already paid taxes off of my earnings - obviously - back home). I'm also very confused whether I should fill out the W-8 or W-9? I'm assuming I will have to fill out the W-8 since we're not married yet?

What did you guys do?

(Going to call the bank tomorrow however I don't expect them to be able to guide me since this really is more a question about immigration)

Just an update here. I talked to the bank and they've retrieved the W-8 and W-9 as they can see I'm not a taxpayer here in the U.S. just yet. They just want me to sell my stocks and it's fine.

Thanks for the inputs everybody :) I will definitely have to transfer money ASAP when I get my US bank account sorted.

They definitely did :) That's what happened to our case too when the embassy received our documents; it was updated on that date.

Oh goodness I really really hope this is the case. Did the status change soon afterwards for you to another status other then administrative processing? I'm so nervous and anxious and just want to know what I should be looking for.

Assuming you have sent in exactly what they needed it should change real soon. Our documents was received (and case updated) early in the morning on the 21st. On the 22nd late afternoon our status was changed to "Visa issued" :) And mind you, that was in December!!

Yes, the only thing that the embassy was waiting for before they approved and issued the visa was the medical paperwork from the visa medical dr's office and they had finally sent that into the embassy last wed. That was the only thing that they needed so that makes me soooo hopeful now that we will finally be actually approved so we can get his flight scheduled and other things for the wedding set. Fingers and toes crossed that this is what it means then :)

Wife has American + Swedish citizenship

Husband Swedish citizenship

Daughter Swedish citizenship. We have not applied for CRBA yet.

Daughter is 1,5 years and born in Sweden.

Wife has lived most of her life in the US, born in Sweden.

We will soon start the IR-1 and CRBA process for our future move to the US.

At the moment my wife is gathering documents etc. for proof of living in the US for the CRBA.

High school transcripts, IRS tax transcripts etc... It seems to be a pain to have the correct document that can be used and not used..

Question

Should we wait to start the IR-1 process until our daughter has been approved?

Does this affect the IR-1 process that our daughter is not a US citizen yet?

Any ideas?

Ok so the ceac status has been updated from AP to Ready looks like early this morning....not that it really gives any real detail on what that actually means...sighs I wish they would provide at least some details so you know if its been actually approved. This is annoying.

Ok so the ceac status has been updated from AP to Ready looks like early this morning....not that it really gives any real detail on what that actually means...sighs I wish they would provide at least some details so you know if its been actually approved. This is annoying.

Ugh, now its back to AP but the case creation date has been changed from October to todays date so both the status update field AND the case creations field dates have been changed to todays date...not sure if thats a good thing or not.

Wife has American + Swedish citizenship

Husband Swedish citizenship

Daughter Swedish citizenship. We have not applied for CRBA yet.

Daughter is 1,5 years and born in Sweden.

Wife has lived most of her life in the US, born in Sweden.

We will soon start the IR-1 and CRBA process for our future move to the US.

At the moment my wife is gathering documents etc. for proof of living in the US for the CRBA.

High school transcripts, IRS tax transcripts etc... It seems to be a pain to have the correct document that can be used and not used..

Question

Should we wait to start the IR-1 process until our daughter has been approved?

Does this affect the IR-1 process that our daughter is not a US citizen yet?

They work fast when you do CRBA in Stockholm so you will have your kids passport way faster than your CR1.Regarding the documents to prove your wife lived in the US high school transcripts are fine. IRS tax transcripts wont do you much good since she have to file taxes no matter where in the world she lives. We sent in high school transcripts. Just make sure they have been stamped and have a wet signature. Also remember that the kid must be present when you have the appointment for CBRA.

OMG OMG OMG, ceac tracker shows that the visa has been ISSUED today!!! OMG I'm so relieved. We are Approved and Issued WooHoo!!!!

Yaaaaaaaay! I knew it wouldn't be long! :) Congratulations !!

12/17/2015 - Visa Interview in Sweden. We're APPROVED!!!
01/14/2016 - P.O.E. @ Newark International Airport
03/21/2016 - Got married @ town hall
03/22/2016 - AOS, EAD, AP packet sent off
08/03/2016 - Became a Conditional Permanent Resident
05/07/2018 - ROC packet sent off
