Hi everybody,

First time here and it really makes me happy to see that there is more Scandinavians out there that went through this VISA process. It is a big blur so far!

I have a short question, Are in the process of applying a K-1 visa, we sent the first package which got received and now we are in the looong waiting. I am travelling to see my fiancée on Friday and I am getting a bit nervous about getting through customs on my tourist visa. Have any one of you had any problems? Or did everything went smoothly? I head stories where ppl are denied to enter?!

hi and welcome to the journey.

I did the same thing to visit my fiance and 3. time the didn't allow me to enter.

When I told them that I should visit my fiance they didn't believe that I would travel back again , but thought I would stay.

My bad was that I brought a few things like photoalbums and pictures in frames. Plus I had recently quit my apartment and moved to my parents in order to save up money before I should move to my fiance.

We had just started our paperwork for a K1 visa, but I didn't bring them. They banned me for 1 year or untill I had my fiance visa approved.

Bring your K1 visa application so that they can see that you are started. Don't bring anything in your suitcase that can let them feel that you will stay.

Very good luck to you and hopefully everything will go smoothly.

They didn't allow me to see him and I had to take the next plane back over the atlantic. It was for me very scary.

Just make sure not to bring anything that can make them suspicios that you wanna stay. Make sure that you only show them that it is only vacation for this time.

I am sorry to scare you, but when I was reading your post I felt that I had to tell you my experience.

This happened May 5 2005, and because of many other problems with my papers to get a visa I first saw him when I moved to US March 7 2007. You may not be that unlucky

I got the secondary inspection at my last entry on VWP. Don't bring too much stuff, i.e. not more stuff than would be "reasonable" for a normal visit. I had a lot of shoes with me (I am a woman, what can I say  ) and the officer found that very suspicious. However, I brought proof that I still had a life in Sweden, i.e. my latest paystub, my latest bank statement, letter from my landlord etc. I was never asked to provide this proof but when she went through my stuff she probably still browsed through it. Also, be prepared that they might call your fiancee to confirm your "story" so make sure you have his number and that he's aware they might call. In the end I was let it but it was really scary.

If you travel through Dublin you can clear U.S. immigrations there. At least it's a shorter flight in case you get turned away but I have also read that they are stricter just because of that.

Moi Stabu!

Työrintamalla on edelleen vaikeaa.

Mikäs teidän vauvan nimi on?

Mun äiti on vihjaillut lapsenlapsista jo ainakin viimeiset 5 vuotta...

Me ostettiin talo vuosi sitten, jolloin täällä oli talojen hinnat vähän alempana.

Noh, jos alkavat vinkua niin sitten niitä pitää vaan ystävällisesti hakata niitä kunnes oppivat olemaan (L).

Timeline

I'd hate to break up the Finnish posts that most of us don't understand, but I wanted to say that I've added a review of my K-1 experiences at the Copenhagen embassy for those of you who are curious or destined to end up there some day.

It truly must be with the help of divine intervention that after entering into this well-defined bureaucratic process, we were blessed with the expected outcome within the predefined timeline. Praise deities!

Timeline

I've been taking Finnish classes for almost a year, but the only word that I remember is paska. :D

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!
