Mrs. Bean, tervetuloa joukkoon iloiseen :) Ja lykkyä myös sinne. Oottekos te jo naimisissa? Siitä nimittäin aika pitkälle riippuu, mitä viisumia haetaan. Kannattais varmaan käydä tsekkaamassa tän saitin Visa Faq-osio.

Welcome aboard everyone and good luck! :):star:

Hej Alexandra_v :)

Well, you did come up with a topic: Where is everyone from? I was born and raised in Helsinki. How about yourself? And where in the US are you/will you be moving?

Hei and Hej and what have you everyone!

I feel really bad for not checking out this thread for ages. I've been mad busy. Plus trying hard not to think about visa stuff until we heard something, 'cos it was makin' me blue. BUT NOW WE HEARD SOMETHING!   Just yesterday our I-130 got approved and we couldn't be happier. It 75 days, that's pretty fast don't cha think, what with the stuff that's been goin' on?

Hope everyone else is doing good, with their jobs, babies and hey, those pesky visa applications and status adjustments.

Oh and to answer Sanna's question, I'm a Helsinki girl myself, though grew up in Kuopio, but I was born in our fine Capital.

Thanks for all the good vaccination etc. info SanDan and Stabu, I'm almost done with mine. Pesky quicksilver-laden toxins... ;)

CR-1 Timeline:

USCIS:

04-30-2008: I-130 Sent

05-08-2008: Received at California Service Center

05-10-2008: NOA 1

05-10-2008: Hard Copy

05-12-2008: Check cashed

07-22-2008: NOA 2

NVC:

10-27-2008: NVC sends an RFE requiring about my J-1 visa two year home country residency requirement. 3 days before the requirement (that never applied to me in the first place) would have become void.

11-7-2008:APPROVED

11-28-2008: Case fowarded to embassy after we get "a little help from our friends"...Interview scheduled for Monday 5th of January

12-30-2008: Interview cancelled by phone. A rude consular officer says "we have our reasons and will call you on monday."

01-05-2009: They don't call, so I call them and re-schedule for 01-07-2008.

01-07-2009: Interview. They don't say we're approved. They don't say that we're not approved. In fact they hardly say anything. No request for more documents or weird questions. They don't want to see any evidence. Just weird. They take my passport though, so most likely we are approved. Or else they just wanted my passport.

01-29-2009: The lovely consular officer tells me I can pick up my visa whenever I like!

01-30-2009: Visa in hand!

Hello san dan!

My history is complicated! To be honest with you I don’t even know where I’m from!

Was born in Angola ( Afrika) moved to Portugal when I was 1 year old, Then to Sweden when I was 12 years old and from Sweden to USA ( Florida – Fort Myers ) stayed there for almost a year and now I’m back in Sweden waiting from my visa!

Hopefully I will go back to Florida in October!

How is everyone doing around here?

Snorkies

Congratulations!!!!

Hello. First of all, thank *insert deity of your choice here* for this website. I am losing my mind trying to navigate the USCIS website. I visited my local office today and was not much help. Anyways, here's the problem: My fiance is from Norway and we are planning to get married there in June and then here in Texas sometime afterwards. From what I have been reading, our only option is the K-3 visa since it's a little late to be applying for the K-1. Is this true? The next hurdle is the Support thing. I just got furloughed (laid off), so I am currently unemployed... Where do I start?

Hey!

Read the guides on here-they are very helpful. Then I would suggest making a post if you can't find an answer.

As far as K-3, the processing times are usually longer than K-1. You can still meet the support requirements

if you find a co-sponsor. I am a full-time student and I am using my brother as a co-sponsor.

Hi all, I just thought of posting here since my boyfriend is Finnish. We have recently decided to get married. (So actually I guess that means he is my fiancé!) We have been together for over four years, visiting each other two to three times every year. He has come to the U.S. many times to visit me, and I have have gone to Finland a few times over the last few years to visit him. Now that he is done with his military service in Finland that he was required to go to, we started looking into having him move to the U.S. so we can finally live together and not have to go through this very hard long distance anymore. We haven't filed the I-129F form yet, but we have printed out the form and looking into starting the process and what we need to do so. I don't even have enough money right now to pay the $455 fee to fill it because I am having a hard time getting my old job back since I got back from my 3 month visit to Finland. :( But I will keep trying. Anyways if I can't get a job within the next month my boyfriend (or fiancé! I am just not used to saying that yet! :P) is going to send me the money so we can pay the fee and get the process started. I know this will be a long and lengthy process, but I am very excited thinking that we are finally starting this and starting our life together. I love him so much!

Aren't Finland and Iceland actually Nordic and not Scandinavian? I thought Scandinavia only included Norway, Denmark, and Sweden? This is probably open to interpretation though...

BirdyGirl85, good luck with your application! I hope you can gather up the money (one way or another) to get things rolling. It's good to keep in mind that you guys will also be needing money for the medical exam, plane tickets, the wedding, AOS (a little bit later) etc. Not exactly a cheap a process :P You can do it though. You just need to be patient. Let us all know how things go and turn out for you guys :)

Swenglish, depends how technical you want to be. The original thread (this is thread #2) was called Scandinavians and people seem to be much more familiar with the word Scandinavia than the term Nordic countries. Essentially this thread was meant for people from the Nordic countries who want to share experiences, ask for advice etc.

What's everyone doing for the Midsummer festival/Midsommar/Juhannus btw?

Kiitos SanDan! ;) We do realize how much this whole process is going to cost... That's why I feel like I should wait until I have a job to fill K-1. I know you don't need to prove your income until the interview, but I'm afraid if I fill now, what happens if I don't have a job by the time the interview comes? I really hope that doesn't happen, buy you can never know with the way the economy is right now. :( With my mom being a co-sponsor we would meet the requirement, but she can't do it alone, I would need to add to the income as well. This is just so frustrating and upsetting I still don't have a job, but I'm trying hard to get a job. I really don't want to put off starting this process any longer, I already miss him a lot...

I'm wondering when it's time for the interview, should I go to Finland to be there during the interview? I have heard it's really recommended to do so. That would cost us another +$1000 to do so, but if it really helps convince the U.S. Embassy that our marriage will be a real one, we will do so. Plus it would be nice to see him again before he moves. And I would be able to have some Fazer chocolate again! Mmmmm, Geisha and Maya Chili chocolate are my favorites! And I love this type of Finnish rye bread that is a thin and crunchy bread and you toast it in the toaster. I love making sandwiches with it! I took two packs of it home with me to the U.S. and I missed it once I finished eating it. :P And we can relax in a sauna again... ;)
