I'm planning on doing an electronic transfer from my Swedish bank to a U.S one, but my experiences of U.S banks and electronic transfers are...very non existent. Unless banks in the U.S finally got around to make it easy for people?

I just signed up for IKEA membership in the U.S . I feel so proud! LOL

Good luck with that!! When I closed my account I had to go to the bank and ask them to send all my money to the Swedish bank. US has gotten to the point where you can electronically send money between bank accounts that uses the same bank. I don't know if it's the same with all banks but I had Capital One and I could not send money to my fiance who has Bank of America. I had to write him a check every time I wanted to send him money.

Gah! So they're still stuck in the 70s in that regards. lol. Darn it.

Whenever I send my fiance money I would just use PayPal. I just have no idea whether it's worth using it for sums above, say, $2000. Apparently the USD is strong right now, so perhaps I should just leave my money in my swedish account too and just keep using my card/ATMs until I get a job and open a bank account and start earning money over there. It's ridiculous how backwards the USA is with so many things, you can go to a grocery store and pay by waving your phone but god forbid you want to do an international transfer, lol.

Yes, as with a lot of things, they're way behind :P

Yessss. haha. How about re-routing through PayPal? I know they take like 3% but if you do smaller transfers at a time....

When we sell the biz, we'll have something like 150 000 USD, but in Swedish currency. How the heck are we supposed to get it over to the U.S.

But we don't have a U.S bank account! Not until we actually move there.

What about if you call your Swedish bank from the US and asked them to send the money? I have Nordea and they at least let me sell my "fonder" over the phone. All I needed to do was just my little electronic bank thing to authorize the whole thing.

I also have Nordea, I found some info about Utlandsbetalning on their site, that might be helpful. :)

I just transferred my money from Swedbank to my husband's Citizen's bank account. They charged 50 sek on my end and...$18 on his end I think. Better than the percentage charged by Paypal if you're transferring larger amounts at least! If I remember correctly it took like a week for the money to transfer.

Entered on a K1 Visa, now a proud holder of a ten-year Green Card!

You can wire money between different US banks and accounts and even US to foreign, but there is a fee. I've done it plenty of times and you've been able to do it since I can remember. We've wired money back and forth from the American to Danish account and to my daughter's old school in Denmark without any issues.

How do you think people buy houses and things, with checks? Last year we just wired the full price of our house to the lawyer's trust account and then they wired it to the sellers.

As to the foreign account, we left it open and they sent a weird letter saying they were required to report our account to the US authorities or some such nonsense. We'll use it when we travel back.

I was super nervous too... but there was really no reason to be! :) Everyone at the embassy was really friendly, even if the very first security guard that talked to me was more on the serious side. Just double (and triple) check you have all the papers you need, and the passport photos... and you should be good to go! Good luck!

Hi all,

Been lurking around for a while but never posted before, thought it was about time.

The AOS fee status changed to N/A yesterday so I called the NVC today and they confirmed that my case is complete. Pretty excited about that and happy we didn't get a checklist since it seems to slow down the process significantly. Just hoping to get an interview as soon as possible so I can leave this terrible summer behind and enjoy the sunny California instead.

Does anyone have any news or info about when they start scheduling interviews?

Hi!

Congrats on case complete :) We got case complete on the 17th of July, a little before you. Still no interview date.. But heard they have started scheduling for september.
