Hi All,

My Fiance and I are just at the beginning stages of the K1 Visa process and I was just wondering how long does it usually take to send something in the mail from Norway? I have all the necessary paperwork on my side ready to go but I need the forms from my Fiance in Norway with his signature on them. He has had to send them twice now. The 1st time the postal service returned them to him because the address got wiped off the label and the 2nd time he sent them to me back on 6/30 but they have not been delivered yet at all. I'm so frustrated with the postal services as we should have been able to start the process back in May but still cannot without that paperwork.

So I'm working on my CV for future job applications in my new home country. I was reading online that in the US, a CV is only a page long.... Has anyone else started working on their CV and how did you get it down to only one page? It feels so weird to only write the job title and company worked for without mentioning any job responsibilities/tasks. Did you include a picture or not on the CV?

Yes it is quite different to apply for jobs here. I had a bit of a hard time adjusting to that as I was trying to apply for internships here two years ago. Here you do a 1 page CV (don't add a picture, they're not supposed to judge you by your looks but some still do). And then you would also include a cover letter where you mix in info about yourself as well as tell them how your previous job experience will be beneficial for the job you're applying to. Depending on where you are applying they might ask for a writing sample for example previous college essays you've written etc.

I'm the USC in my relationship and the only 1 page CV/resume's I've ever seen are from those just out of school with no work history. Now granted most employers want a condensed version of your cv/resume; however, its a bit unrealistic to have just 1 page if you have been working for the past several years and have had different jobs/roles. Also, they do generally want to know what responsibilities/tasks you have performed. One suggestion is to use bullet points and have 4-5 of them for each job/role listed. Personally, my resume/cv is about 3-4 pages long. The older you are with more work history, the longer is will be. Hope that helps

The AOS fee status changed to N/A yesterday so I called the NVC today and they confirmed that my case is complete. Pretty excited about that and happy we didn't get a checklist since it seems to slow down the process significantly. Just hoping to get an interview as soon as possible so I can leave this terrible summer behind and enjoy the sunny California instead.

Does anyone have any news or info about when they start scheduling interviews?

The embassy can slow down a lot during summer....semester tider du vet. So just be patient

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I've sent mail from Norway to the US a few times, so can comment on my experiences. Postcards have typically taken about two weeks and packages about a week. It could be slower in summer though....

Yeah, fortunately the fashion brand that my current company distributes in Scandinavia is owened by a big corporation in Grand Rapids with lots of other brands so I will probably work there in product development. Do you have any plans for work?

Wow, you're lucky to be able to "transfer" your career that way :-) I work in research, and will probably have to "start over" outside my core area of expertise. Not exactly ideal, but when you love someone...

I'm still waiting on getting our checklist reviewed but from I've heard from others on VJ, the Swedish embassy are booking interviews for September now.

This is great to know, thank you. I have about 15 years of work experience so I've really been struggling how to get my CV down to only one page and get my skill set across at the same time. What about a photo, do you normally add that to the CV in the US?

Okay I'm a little worried now, I think the people at immigration screwed something up... First of all, entry in to the US was easy! But looking at the stamp and my recent I-94, it all looks wrong. My entry stamp says I arrived on the 39th of July which is an obvious mistake, probably a slip on the stamp since I arrived on the 29th. I have my boarding pass still, so I'm not too worried about that. The worrying thing is my I-94, which states that my Class of Admission is C1, and it says admit until date 08/26/2015. I'm a K1, not a C1! Will this screw up the AOS or SSN Process? And also, the deadline is 10/26/2015, October, not August! I'm freaking out here, how can there be so many mistakes? Anyone else experienced something similar? Can anyone who entered recently on a K1 tell me what their I-94 says?

Thanks! That seems more like something you should do if you have problems with or questions about an application, but I think I found out what to do if there's a mistake on an I-94. Seems like the best thing to do is to contact the nearest Deferred Inspection site, I just sent them an email and I'll call Monday to make an appointment. I found this info:

Which says: "The Deferred Inspection Site staff is also available to review and issue the necessary documents to remedy errors recorded on arrival documents issued at the time of entry to the United States relating to improper non-immigrant classification, inaccurate biographical information or incorrect period of admission, if appropriate."

I just can't believe the immigration officer made so many mistakes! I can't apply for AOS or an SSN with an I-94 that says C1 instead of K1. Should have gotten the hint when I saw the stamp saying July 39th, what a moron.

Yep, I would call CBP and have them fix it for you. I arrived on a K1 on July 16th and my entry stamp is valid until October 14th or something like that. Hope it's an easy fix!

Not directly visa related but... what did you guys do with your money when moving? Did you exchange it at your bank, forex or transfer it to your SO's bank account directly? I have no idea how to go about it, in the past I wouldn't exchange anything and just withdraw cash from ATMs when I'm there or use my debit card..

I don't have much on my Swedish bank account but since my parents send me money now and then I'm keeping the account and keeping the money there until I need it.
