Timeline

Hei to all Fellow Scandahuvians!

I'm a Finnish girl who's marrying her American (well Finnish-American by blood;) fiancee next month. We're filing for a K-3 visa. This site and especially you guyses posts have already proved very useful and we hope to share our fun times with visa process here and get and offer advice and support. If anyone's situated in the Puget Sound area, let me know, as that's where my future hubby lives.

Happy New Year To All

(hope I posted this the right way it's a little confusing)

CR-1 Timeline:

USCIS:

04-30-2008: I-130 Sent

05-08-2008: Received at California Service Center

05-10-2008: NOA 1

05-10-2008: Hard Copy

05-12-2008: Check cashed

07-22-2008: NOA 2

NVC:

10-27-2008: NVC sends an RFE requiring about my J-1 visa two year home country residency requirement. 3 days before the requirement (that never applied to me in the first place) would have become void.

11-7-2008:APPROVED

11-28-2008: Case fowarded to embassy after we get "a little help from our friends"...Interview scheduled for Monday 5th of January

12-30-2008: Interview cancelled by phone. A rude consular officer says "we have our reasons and will call you on monday."

01-05-2009: They don't call, so I call them and re-schedule for 01-07-2008.

01-07-2009: Interview. They don't say we're approved. They don't say that we're not approved. In fact they hardly say anything. No request for more documents or weird questions. They don't want to see any evidence. Just weird. They take my passport though, so most likely we are approved. Or else they just wanted my passport.

01-29-2009: The lovely consular officer tells me I can pick up my visa whenever I like!

01-30-2009: Visa in hand!

Kiitos kiitos. Oikeesti tosi kiva ja kaytannollinen saitti ja mukavan tuntuista sakkia. We're getting married here in Helsinki, mainly due to my mom's need to meddle, but also because K-3 seemed like a good visa option for us. I still have graduate from college this spring before I can go, so it seems like the timing of getting everything organized would work out sweet (fingers crossed). I'm both excited and terrified! Excited 'cos I can't wait to start my life with my love and scared 'cos you know the visa process seems really grueling. I guess that's all normal.

Hello everybody! I've just joined the forums after having lurked for a long, long time. I am not Scandinavian, but I have my reasons for posting here, and hopefully some of you will be able to help me with my query.

I am an Italian citizien who lived in Finland from February 1996 to July 2001. There I worked at a local university, where I had been appointed as as a lecturer of Italian by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (my current employer). This means I had a regular residence permit, but other than that I had no official status (the only identity number I have is the one I used for tax purposes), since I was paid by the Italian government.

Now I am engaged to an USC, who is waiting for his divorce to become final. When this happens, we'll file for a K-1. I know I still have a lot of time, but I would like to know if I can apply to the Finnish Oikeusrekisteri for a police clearance certificate, seen as I lived in the country for over five years, and the USCIS requires me to produce such a document for all the countries where I have resided (only Italy and Finland so far). I have already gathered some information via Google, but the doubt still remains. Would any of you resident Finns be able to help me?

Welcome aboard Kim and HighwayStar :)

Kim, good luck to your interview on Wednesday :star: Let us know how it went, ok?

HighwayStar, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to apply for the certificate. You can do it easily online. Please check the following link to the Finnish Legal register center website: http://www.oikeus.fi/oikeusrekisterikeskus/18596.htm That's the English version as I'm not sure how fluent you are in Finnish ;)

Sanna,

Mun CV:t on ilmeisesti yhä vääränlaisia, enkä oikeen ole osannut lähettää niitä firmoille, koska en oikeen osaa markkinoida itseäni (mun saattokirjeet on kuulemma surkeita ). Miten itse menettelit? Onko mitään hyviä vinkkejä? Vaimo on hermona, etten saa ikinä töitä koska olen ollut kohta 2kk "työttömänä" (virallisesti olen yhä opiskelija).

Anette, Stabu's question was directed to me and that's why he decided to write in Finnish. I do not believe his intention was to offend anyone. Other Nordic languages have been used in this thread, as well.

Stabu, jospa nyt sitten vastaan englanniksi, ettei muut noin kovasti ärsyynny... It can take a while to find a job so don't give up just yet. You may want to consider joining Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com and other websites that let you post your resume and look for available jobs in your area. Check the local newspapers for job ads (some of them may have websites so the ads could be available online too) and find out if there are companies in your area that match your field of interest. You might be able to apply for jobs directly on those companies' websites. Keep in mind that your first job doesn't need to be super glamorous and it doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with your education or education level. You need to start with something and if the job isn't quite what you wanted you can still keep looking while making some money. Don't be too picky ;) (Minäkään en muuten ole duunissa, joka mitenkään vastais mun koulutusta tai edes intressejä, mutta työkaverit on kivoja ja palkka on OK, joten yli puolitoista vuotta on vierähtänyt yllättävän nopeasti.) Good luck :star:

Sanna

P.S. Kysy privana lisää, jos haluut kirjottaa vain suomeksi. Ilmeisesti on OK kirjottaa muilla pohjoismaisilla kielillä, mutta ei suomeksi...
