Thanks, I'll look into that! I thought Obama's affordable care was only for citizens, but I'll look around and see if I understand any of it. I'm just unsure of the rules and laws about everything, how immigrant status affects insurance or of it does, or if you need an SSN first (in which case there will still be at least a few days without insurance etc). There's just so much to think about that I have no clue how works! Eric has a friend who is an immigration lawyer though, so I think I'll just ask her if she knows anything.

LPRs are eligible for subsidies with Obamacare. :) We used it without a problem last year and moving into the country or getting married is a qualifying life event.

I don't know if it's ok for me post in this thread anymore cause I'm in the process of getting my two-year green card converted to a "full" non-conditional permanent green card. We got a request for more evidence so my wife and I are getting more papers together. We're getting a will, among other things. I can't wait to be done with USCIS.

My wife and I went on our honeymoon to Waikiki last November. That was the best week of my life. We are definitely going back to Hawaii some day.

I'm going home to visit family and friends in Sweden this summer. Booked plane tickets tonight. Wish my wife could go too but it's so damn expensive!

Edit: Hi N-o-l-a! :)

Hi! *waves*

Us old timers are still around, see? Sorry to here about your RFE, I kept thinking we were going to get one for ROC, but it seems our ROC wait was short and without issue. Maybe it is the universe's way of balancing out the crappy job they did with the CR1.

4 tickets to Denmark next year for us, but at least children are usually given a discount. I'd be happy to sacrifice my ticket for the money saving and that we wouldn't need to rent a car if I didn't go (but, also I could do without going back), but alas, my husband is too chicken to handle two kids on his own.

Are you going to go for citizenship when it comes up?

My experience with my previous 10 year Green Card is basically you can't vote but everything else applies to you. Well also you can't become the president or work for the Fbi. I'm simplifying it but you get the gist. You can count on that the SSN Card will be a whole lot more important than your green Card in your everyday life, like insurances, drivers license, credit cards ,banks.

So a little random question from me :)

In April I planned our honeymoon, it's gonna be September 17th to September 25 :)

And I just want to get those plane tickets now, before the prices go up.

I got my NOA2 on June 11.

Do you guys think I'll be in the states before September 17th ?

How soon are you getting married? Once you're married, you should be able to get on your husband's insurance. I just kind of...didn't have insurance for a month or so. Yeah, it was risky, but it worked out! ACA is more of a law than a specific health insurance, so it applies to everyone who is eligible for health insurance. You won't be eligible for Medicaid though, since that's considered a form of welfare.

You probably will be but you might want to hold off buying tickets until this whole hacking thing settles down and they start issuing visas again. They don't have an ETA on when they'll start giving out visas to people who have been approved. Hopefully it's just a few weeks but you never know. Keep an eye on the K1 forums and see when people start reporting that they are able to pick up their visas. Might be a bit of a backlog for a bit. You should be fine though.

You *should' be in the States before then...but it's always risky to buy plane tickets. Also, where is the honeymoon? I'm assuming it's in the States, since you won't be able to leave the country without AP, which takes about 3 months to get from the time you apply for AoS. Beware! You can lose a lot of money.

I haven't decided what I want to do for citizenship! Our situation is a bit different, since we're planning on moving back to Sweden once my husband's military contract is up in 6 years. So theoretically I should be fine with the 10-year GC. But we'll have at least one kid by then, and having citizenship would make it so much easier to go back and forth to visit American family! But then there's taxes to be paid...and it's expensive to become a citizen!

I am also trying to figure out the whole insurance thing because Seve says adding me to his insurance once we're married is too expensive. About $500 a month or something like that.

Found a Visitors Coverage Insurance which is health insurance for Green Card holder and other types of visa holder in the states. http://www.visitorscoverage.com/

Seem cheap but don't know if they're good.

Does it really effect the Swedish embassy too ? :(

I hope they will have it fixed asap :)

I'm just so excited to go on this trip that I almost can't keep myself away from looking at plane tickets :P

I think, that if I get the plane tickets, it will probably make me more nervous about how long time this will take and go crazy ?.

So I'm gonna listen to what you all are saying and wait a little longer before I get any tickets :)

Be very very very cautious of cheap insurances -especially- if they seem to target immigrants. Only use a reputable insurance company, and yes, they are expensive.

I haven't looked into the whole story but my understanding was that it affected all countries issuing visas.

I know and then you look at it and then it goes up, and the next day it goes up... I had to force myself to not look at prices until my visa was approved :P

Do you know approximately how much insurance cost? My guess is that he is so used to having his insurance basically for free so he thinks everything above that is expensive...
