Oh wow that's so soon! You must be over the moon! I'm so jealous, I wish I could leave so soon but I have to stay and work to earn some much needed money... I'm over halfway in my wait since my interview now though, and it did go pretty fast, so I'm hoping the next few weeks will fly by! Not packed yet, but I do want to get started soon... Getting impatient, haha!

Hi!

Does anyone know what the vaccination requirements are when applying for a visa?

I'll have the medical examination done in Norway, and all they said at the clinic was MMR, Tetanus, and chickenpox if you didn't get it as a child.

I looked at the CDC recommendations and couldn't really find any info on Pertussis. The rest I think is only needed for children or adolescents.

Does anyone know the requirements?

The clinic (the one in Oslo) told me MMR, tetanus/diphtheria and chickenpox. The bloodwork you'll get done before your medical will test you for chickenpox antibodies. I got the Tdap booster ahead of time, as the tetanus/diphtheria vaccines you get as a child "expire" after 10 years.

So - unless you have a medical reason for not wanting the pertussis part of the vaccine, or your tetanus/diphtheria vaccinations are up to date otherwise, I'd recommend getting the Tdap booster at your local vaccination office.

Hope that helps. :)

Ah! Thank you so much for the info. :)

I didn't realize that Pertussis was included in the Tdap shot. Thought it was only Tetatnus and diphtheria. I have to get that shot anyway because it's been more than a year.

Thank you. :)

I don't know about the other shots, but I needed a tetanus shot too and they just did it right there during the medical. Maybe ask if they do other shots as well if you need it? The tetanus shot was only 100 kr extra, and it saves you an extra trip to the doctor! :)

Due to circumstances, I'm not ready to leave until Nov/Dec, is there a way to delay the interview? I should be able to reschedule right.

Here's a quote from the interview letter sent from NVC:

To reschedule an interview, visit our website http://nvc.state.gov/interviewand review the U.S. Embassy orConsulate in STOCKHOLM's Interview Instructions. If the embassy or consulate does not have any specificrescheduling guidelines listed, contact the embassy or consulate directly (see U.S. Embassy or Consulate Addressand Contact Information above) to reschedule the applicant's interview.

If you read the info sheet for the embassy in Stockholm on the NVC site, it states the following:

Please be aware that it may take up to 6 months to obtain a different appointment. Also keep in mind that we can only give approximately 3 weeks advance notice.

It looks like it won't be a problem for you to have a bit of a delay for a new appointment, but keep in mind that you will have 6 months to activate the visa from the date of your medical appointment. Also note that there is a delay between CC and interview date. For us, it was two months. It might work fine for you to travel in November or December without the need to reschedule. I hope that the timing of it all will work out well for you.

Very helpful, thanks again! Yeah I won't schedule a medical until I am ready for the interview, so they're as close as possible. It is not a huge issue, if I get the visa before my husband (the USC) is ready to leave Sweden, I'll go ahead of him to live with his parents.

Sorry, you can't travel first. The USC must return to the US before or at the same time as the immigrant. Can't remember exactly where I read this, but I've seen it many times during this process. We are also a couple both living abroad.
