Got my NOA1 for ROC on December 1st. Still no biometric appointment letter.. Strange..

As far as a sticker, no. You can get a stamp at your local CIS office at an InfoPass, but you don't really need it. The NOA1 letter acts as valid proof of your permanent resident status until the 10 year card arrives in the mail.

Waiting sucks indeed. Hi again Nola!

I'm kind of freaked out about a piece of paper being all the proof you need. I wonder what they'd say if we showed it to them at the Canadian border...

Oh hi. How's America going for you?

Funny story, my husband has been suckered into speaking at the Sons of Norway up here in a month. LOL. Once they get their claws on a fresh Scandinavian, it seems that there is no way they are letting go.

We've totally acclimatized to the cold too. Although, I've yet to figure out the logic on days like tomorrow of delaying opening of schools by 2 hours so the temp can go from -18 F to -16 and the windchill from -38 to -36. Because somehow that is going to make a huge difference.

Doing well. Went to California, enrolled in a master's program and currently waiting for ROC with divorce pending (Takes 6 months in CA).

You and your Dane went to CT right?

I heard that too actually. Still "uaktuelt" in Norway.

I'm sorry to hear about your marriage not working out. :( Well, maybe by the time you are eligible they'll change their minds.

We went to CT for a while and then moved to Northwestern Minnesota about 6 months ago and bought a house.

Not that this thread is super popular lately, but I wonder if anyone has had any experience with this and their kiddos http://www.danes.dk/en/danish-courses/online-danish-courses/about-online-danish-courses/

It seems with with completion you can get the normal 9th grade certificate in Danish from the government.

Is there anyone from Denmark that can recommend a shipping firm to move household goods? We are hoping to move from the Copenhagen area to Charlotte NC this summer.

Thanks!

How you doin' man!?

I know the NOA1 letter works, but if I don't have the 10 year green card by the time we go home and visit in Sweden this summer, I think I'll prefer to get a stamp in my new passport.

My wife and I went on our honeymoon in Waikiki btw. It was the best week of my life!

Well, I heard back from my Service Request. "Bla bla bla, sorry for the delay, check back in 90 days." So I guess I'll make another note in the calendar and go on my merry non-green-card-having way. Hopefully this put my case file on someone's desk at least.

I don't know where to take my little rant, but I figure this section of VJ is as good as any. You guys at least know some of what I'm going through.

I want to move home. I want to move home more than anything in the world.

My husband was unemployed for over 2 years after getting his BS, and we applied for a family reunification visa with UDI. We honestly didn't think we'd get approved, with no income, but we applied for an exception. To be honest, I forgot all about it. It's not been 14 months, my husband JUST got a job - and then of course we get approved. So now he won't go, because he has a job here.

I strongly believe home is a better place to raise our son. We pay $700/month for 3x/week daycare. I do not have a college degree, so I work for $8/hr (the three days he's at daycare, and then both days on weekends - the last two days, I'm home with our son). It's soul crushing working so much and knowing I have nothing to show for it afterwards. We can't afford savings. Even with his job we're living paycheck to paycheck. The only "luxury" item we have is our phones. When we need two cars, we borrow my in-laws' car. They also pay our gas. I get so aggravated knowing that if I was working at home, I'd be making a living wage, and wouldn't have to pay it all to barnehage.

My husband keeps saying it'll get better, he'll get promotions and make more, but how long will that take? And if we (ever can afford to) have another child, I would either need money for childcare for a second child (and infant care is even more expensive, not to mention I am not at all comfortable leaving a 3 month old!) or quit my job, because maternity leave doesn't exist! Since we don't have money, we can never afford to do anything, either. Skiing? $40/per person including ski rental, because we can't afford to buy skis. Children's Museum? $12 admission. We can't even take walks, because for some stupid reason there are like no f'in sidewalks here!

Our marriage is good, we don't fight, divorce is not something I want to consider, but I'm almost getting there, simply because I feel trapped here. I think it would be foolish to decline the family reunification visa, when it's so rare and hard to get, and there is no possible way to me to meet the income requirements at a later point in time (it would translate to somewhere between $40,000-$50,000/year, and without a college degree I don't think so).

He says he'll only go if he has a job to go to, but he doesn't speak Norwegian (despite me asking him to learn it for the past eight years, with extra badgering in the past 3 since we had our son), and everyone's telling me to give up on the hope that someone will hire an American accountant who doesn't speak the language. He also is unwilling to consider grunt work like I do (store clerk jobs, etc). I get so bitter, because I stood by him for YEARS while he was unemployed, with $0 income (literally), and he won't go to Norway, where at least my income would let us get by, until he's learned enough Norwegian to get a job???

How can I convince him to move? I don't know what to do. I feel so trapped here. Always broke, always STRUGGLING. This country is amazing - for the rich.

Married since 03/02/2011, AOS from F-1 visa, green card granted 05/24/2011.
Blessed with a healthy baby boy, 08/19/2011! We get to keep our family together! Thank you! smile.png

, I'm sorry that sucks. I was even looking for jobs as a maid in DK so I could stay under my EU working rights. There is no shame in any job as long as it is honest work, imo.

A place to start might be online Norwegian classes at a university - I really liked them, but it is money. I only wish they had them for Danish. Anyway, I find Norwegian super easy to learn because things are actually pronounced as written. I think you can buy the books for not that much money and then all the audio is online http://norwords.com/settigang1/guides/index.html

http://www.lulu.com/shop/kari-lie-and-nancy-aarsvold/sett-i-gang-i-textbook-color/paperback/product-3203138.html

That is what pretty much 90% of the class is anyway, so cheap alternative, and good starting point.

https://www.energica.no/_exploring-norwegian-grammar-kirsti-mac-donald-9788202403331

If you can't move back or decide not to, I really highly suggest you think about northern MN/eastern ND. As long as you are breathing here, you've got a job and housing is cheap. I'm a SAHM and people have offered jobs to me, that is how desperate it is. Starting wages are about $12/hour for retail, more if you have experience. Some jobs will pay for you to get a degree even as an entry level employee. Scandinavian heritage only helps in getting a job and doing well and every single supermarket and even a lot of the gas stations have Norwegian food.

But then again, if you have been approved to go back, I agree that you should take the opportunity. The Danish half is pretty adamant that he'd never go back now, but we've had the total opposite experience - tight finances in Denmark, but have done really well in America and we can move back at any time without reunification. It is plain silly to work an $8/hour job and pay daycare unless you are getting a daycare subsidy from the state (have you looked into that?).

Hej!

I got my green card approved! Yay! I'll probably be travelling to Sweden once more this year before I'm too pregnant to travel, so it's nice not to have to worry about AP or anything. Plus it feels better being a permanent resident now that we're having a kid. My mother-in-law is excited too, cause now she knows they won't throw me and the baby out. :P
