Hi hello again! =)

I have a few more questions, this time it's about medical history journals, as I prepare for my interview and medical exam.

Do I need to bring those with me to the interview and medical exam? I have completed all the vaccinations, and got the yellow card, that's not what I'm after here.

I've run into a lot of problems in trying to obtain my own medical history journals from the local hospitals and care centers.

Any Swede out there that has some answers, advice or tips on how obtain one's medical journals?

You don't need your medical journals.

See - I'm a lot further behind, but I already know that I'll apply for citizenship on the dot. Before Denmark approved dual citizenships I was hesitant. I didn't wanna give up my danish, but I didn't feel right not applying for the American as I believe I'll spent most of my life here.

Now that Denmark is finally losing up - I know by three years I'll be applying. And I'm happy, because I really like to be able to care for my mother here - and not put her in a home in Denmark when time comes.

Did they approve that finally? I must have missed the news. If they hadn't I know that my husband wouldn't be going for citizenship.

Just a quick update for anyone with AP: I returned on mine last week and it went fine. I was taken to "Secondary questioning" - this time they called it admissability, but it was the same office. :P But the officer only asked me where I was staying and what Visa I came in on last time. Then he stamped my passport and welcomed me back! :)

Now that we are waiting an extra year to go back, I should probably check husband's passport expiration date.

It is going to be weird be back in Denmark 3 years later.... I still haven't decided if I'm going or just going to find myself on a personal vacation elsewhere. My husband is trying to bribe me with Legoland, but they have Legoland in America now...

We are happily settled into Minnesota now and very much like it here. The Danish half found a job right away and is also going to school full time for plumbing. I'm glad he found something because he was very hesitant to leave his trade education in Denmark.

I think he's changed a lot since coming to America, become so much more confident, conservative, and traditional. He's always been rather old-fashioned for a Dane, but I think going back, he'd be a total pariah.

End of Nola's social notes for the day.

Luckily, I renewed my passport half a year before filing for the K-1 visa. So I am safe a while! The consulate here in MN told me the other day that you cannot apply for a new passport anywhere in the US, except in Washington at the Embassy. Do they expect every Swede to travel down there and do it in person? The Swedish government should pay for the airfare if that is the case.

My passport expires in June 2016. I didn't have any plans to go to Denmark before then but maybe I should, since renewal of passports in the States are more expensive and then I have to ad the planefare and everything else connected with going to DC.

There's a passport bus - forgive me, a "Mobile Passport Station for Regular Passports", and you can pick the passport up at your closest consulate. But yeah, it's tricky. I'm lucky to be on the east coast.

Hi all fellow Scandinavians!

I was wondering if there are any young recent graduates amongst you who could share your experiences with entering the US with a K1-visa, being jobless, and how you cope with the transitional period in the US before you get a job? I and my fiancé are applying for a K1-visa and it looks like it might be approved by the end of this year or early 2015. I've recently graduated with a Master's degree and I don't see myself applying for any jobs in Europe before I enter the US with my visa in hand, as I fly back and forth to see him on a tourist visa as much as I can before we (hopefully) get approved. The problem is I have not been able to build up any safety net, financially, and it does feel scary to enter into marriage and in a completely different country with little work experience and no money. Although I know my fiancé will take care of me until I find a job, it's a scary thought. I was wondering if anyone of you are in the same situation and if you could share some of your experiences, offer any success stories or some reassuring words?

I'd appreciate it very much :) Going through this process is a very lonely thing, I've realized, especially with very little support from your family.

Thank you

Hi Utopia,

Please feel free to shoot me a private message, and I can elaborate more on my situation and experiences. Depending on what kind of job you are looking for and where you are moving, I might be able to offer some good advice in a PM. I entered on a K1 visa in November 2012, after graduating with a MSc from NTNU in 2011. I worked for over a year in Norway before moving, got married in January 2013, had my AP in March, and landed a job in May. I have always been doing something, and being without a job was hard. My wife supported me both financially and emotionally, but I felt like I wasn't contributing enough. Needless to say, it was a huge relief to land a decent job...

As for the family part, I was lucky in the sense that my closest family understood and supported me when I went through the process. However, I actually lost a couple of friends who thought I was out of my mind moving to the US and marrying a woman I never really lived with as a "real couple", whatever that means.

And when you land a job and it is time to pay taxes, I can offer some advice on how to handle Skatteetaten :)

I was like you. I came here in 2012 out of college with a master in engineering degree from Denmark. I had zero work experience prior and with almost no saving and my wife was going back to school, so we had almost no income. I just kept putting charges on my danish credit card, my debt was growing more and more and it was very stressful and frustrating at that time.

But my in-law are the kindest people in the world. They took us in and let us stay with them for months while I was looking for a job. I don't think we would have made it without their support.

Fortunately, I found a good job relatively quickly (4-5 months after I got greencard). It's a scary thought but you just have to believe in yourself and your qualification. The economy seems to be relatively better now with more hiring. But when it comes to job hunting, all I can say is it's all about luck. Looking back, I have no idea how I got hired. In engineering, most company prefers to hire college graduates from "ABET" accredited schools but my supervisor and I just clicked during the interview

So, the key here is family, family and family support :-)
