Hi! I've been reading every single post all weekend and I must say I'm really glad I'm not the only one feeling confused :P I'm Swedish, my hubby is from Texas. We got married there in 2010 and he's been living with me in Sweden since 2011. Now we've jumped on this crazy visa journey and hopefully it will get us back to Texas in no time ;) We sent in the I-130 26/7, got our NOA1 11/8 and exactly a month later we got our NOA2. Now we are bugging NVC every other day to get our case-and IIN number. Last Friday my hubby called them and they said they have our paperwork but they need to put in in their system. They said they expect to be able to give us the numbers within 42 days from the NOA2... Hurry up then!!! I think we have gathered almost all the required paperwork except the I-864, we are waiting on our sponsor to do their part back in the US. I can't wait to be done with all the paperwork, mixed messages and lack of clean and simple instructions. Or maybe they are easy but I make them harder to understand :P Congratulations to all of you who already have your visas and good luck to the rest of us :)

I hear you it's not easy! The whole process is kind of stressful with all the mixed message and you think everything is done and the get new information. Anyways just ventilating my own frustation I guess! I am sure everything should be fine. Just so you know 42 days is really long, we got the same information but everybody else was talking about around 21 days and for us it was almost on the spot. Also we did as you called NVC not everyday but almost every week and stuff kind of happened when you called them otherwise it was quite so...

And I liked Saylins checklist and forum called NVC filers (month) if you haven't already joined it! Good luck to you!

Hi! Finally something is happening to our K1 petition - unfortunately not what we were hoping for. We got an RFE that has to do with my Divorce Decree (I'm the Swedish part in all this), and since my fiance is at work and can't remember the exact wording of course I'm getting worked up over it being something I did wrong. (I do that too easily though, need to relax and breathe)

So in order to find some more calm I'm turning to the vast knowledge base that is VJ and I'm asking you guys if any of you have any experience with a similar situation or if you can help me figure out which document they are asking for?

What I sent is the Dom from Tingsrätten - it even had a paragraph in English and the clerk lady told me it would suffice (I know now not to trust little clerk ladies, no matter how sweet they are). It was stamped and signed by a notary. The divorce was in mutual agreement so there are only two pages, though surely that should not be a matter?

Thank you, Brewlin! Just what I needed :)

I've also found this: http://sweden.usembassy.gov/marriage_validity.html

and if I understand that correctly all I need to do is order the divorce decree, have it translated and then get the apostille certification on it.

So no need to have the divorce decree signed and stamped by a clerk of court (like I've seen in older threads)?

Since I've never been divorced, I can't help you but if you are unsure, email the embassy to ask. Usually they're really helpful and friendly. I would be cautious of using old threads as a guide. :)

Hello fellow imigrants :) I have a question for you experts. We got our case number and IIN number and I have filled out the DS-261 and paid the AOS fee on Monday. I just logged into the website and today it says it's paid, yay. Do I have to wait for the IV bill to be payable before I can continue with the DS-260 or can I do the 260 and then go back and pay the IV fee later? Right now it just says $0. Was it 2 weeks before I can pay it? Thank you bunches! :)

I just got off work and rushed home to pay the IV fee and now it's not payable! When I checked a few hours ago there was a red button that I could have pushed to pay but it's not there anymore. Is this something that has happened to someone else too? :o

It was probably a technical mistake or something that made it appear payable on the website. Usually it takes about two weeks from when you paid your AOS till you can pay the IV fee, plus minus a few days.

Hi All,

Ok I have a question about the next steps as I'm a bit confused. Our K1 Visa has been received by the NVC but no case number assigned just yet But my question is this, once the case number is assigned and they send it to your fiance's consulate, how do you know when to schedule the medical and interview? I've seen several people that have said that they scheduled both as soon as they got the NVC Case number but isn't there paperwork you are suppose to wait for to be sent from the consulate with the instructions before you can do that? This confuses me so any direction would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

A lot of people already know what they need before they even receive the email from the embassy so they just go for it.

Wow. It's been a long time since I posted here.

But I have good news. It has been a long journey to get to the point where I am right now. On Sunday it was six years since my wife and I met in person for the first time. It's been over four years since we were married. It has been almost three years since I moved to the United States of America and it's been close to a year since we submitted the request to have the conditional status of my green card removed so I could become a "real" permanent resident.

Emotionally it has been rough. Going such a long time without knowing whether I would be allowed to stay with my wonderful awesome wife has been nagging at me. It has always been there at the back of my mind. The rest of my life has been depending on my legal status and that is not something that I have been able to brush aside.

Well. Now I do not have to worry about it any longer. Our request has been approved and I will shortly be getting my permanent green card. I have been granted the grace of staying with the woman I love.
