Ok, since I can't edit my old post now, I guess I'll have to double post...

So I just looked at this page here on VJ about the Finland Consulate, and it says that the fiance(e)/spouse can't attend the interview... How many of the Finns here had their fiance(e)/spouse come to Finland during the interview anyway? Did it help? I'm still wondering if I should be there during my fiance's interview...

Alexandra_v asked where in Finland were people from, and even though it was asked a long time ago I thought I would answer anyways. :D My fiance is from Espoo. I have been to Finland for a total of nine months. (Three separate trips, each for about three months at a time) We have gone to Helsinki many times. Mostly doing simple things like going out to eat, going to the movies, going to the zoo, site seeing, buying souvenirs and post cards to send to my family back home in the U.S. The farthest north in Finland I have gone is Tampere, where my fiance's father lives. I like Tampere too, I actually thought it was a pretty city. His mom keeps telling Petteri (my fiance) to take me to Lapland. She says it's so pretty up there, but usually Petteri doesn't want to go because he said there are so many mosquitoes there in the summer, and if that is the case I don't really want to go either.

And to answer SanDan's question, I know my fiance will be going to a summer cottage for three days with his friends during midsummer... Hey SanDan I'm curious, what is the picture of in your avatar?

Birdy, sorry about the late responses. I usually check VJ only about once a week :P

My hubby didn't come to the interview with me (I had my K1 interview in spring of 2005) but it didn't seem to make any difference. I had a lot of pictures of us together, the receipt for my engagement/wedding ring and wedding dress, copies of my/his boarding passes from all the times we visited each other, copies of some e-mails/letters we had written to each other plus a lot of other additional evidence with me. Just be prepared is all I can say ;) They check your yearly income from your W2's but if you're counting on a new job make sure to include some of your recent paystubs with your paperwork. It's great if your mom's willing to co-sponsor. You'll definitely need to find a job though. I know looking for one isn't exactly fun and easy...but I wish you the best of luck! :star:

The pic in my avatar is of one of my cats (back when she was a kitten) in a paper bag :P I used to have a pic of me and my hubby up there but then I found out that when and if someone googled VisaJourney online one of the pic results was my avatar  So not cool...

As for the Midsummer festival my mom's coming for a visit with her boyfriend on Monday and they'll be staying with us all week. That means we'll be having a nice Finnish juhannus party in the backyard with lots of great food and booze. Yey! :)

No problem about the late reply! It's really nice to hear how someone's process went from Finland. It seems hard to find an active member here on VJ where the country a fiance/spouse is from is Finland, so thank you for letting me know how your interview went. That's really awesome your mother and her boyfriend are coming to visit you during the Midsummer festival. I wonder how often my fiance's mother will come to the U.S. to visit once my fiance moves. She has never been to the U.S. before. (Although she has traveled to many other countries) I know she doesn't want her son to move... I feel kind of bad, but he keeps telling his mother that is what he wants to do. I wouldn't mind traveling to Finland in the future to go with him to visit his friends and family, of course if we can afford it. Who knows... We haven't even started the K-1 process yet, but I am trying to be hopeful that I will get a job in the next couple months. I love Petteri so much, and I know we will get through this and live together some day.

Anyone from Copenhagen or who has spent time there in the summer around? The hubby and I are going to Sweden in a couple of weeks (early-mid July). We are flying into Copenhagen and then taking the train to Sweden.

Since neither of us have been to Copenhagen we are thinking of spending a couple of days there before our flight leaves back for the U.S. Unfortunately we will most likely be flying out on a Tuesday so we will spend Sunday and Monday in Copenhagen (we would have preferred Friday/Saturday night).

Does anyone know what Copenhagen will be like on a Sunday/Monday in the summer, if there will be fun places open, nightlife etc? I would assume there will be plenty of things going on during the "prime vacation time" so to speak but I want to make sure since Dave easily gets restless... ^_^

I've been to Copenhagen quite a few times (lived about 45 min away in Lund, Sweden for a couple years). Copenhagen is such a lovely city in the summer (assuming you have good weather). If I remember correctly, most places will be closed on Sundays or have restricted opening hours, so it kind of depends on what you plan to do there. Monday, however, will return to normal business hours. I would recommend going to Tivoli at night, it's really beautiful and romantic with all the lights, visit Nyhavn (and perhaps take one of the boat tours around the city from there). There's also a lot of great shopping, cafes, and restaurants all throughout the city. Plenty of museums too if that's your thing. I think Copenhagen is definitely worth a visit, even if it's on a Sunday/Monday (but I have such great memories of the place so maybe I'm biased :P )

Thanks guys. I have heard it is a beautiful city and I have always wanted to go to Tivoli. Taking a boat tour is also a really good idea.

I am a little bit worried about the weather knowing how nice it is right now. I couldn't be so lucky that it stays that way for another two weeks... could I... But if it is raining I guess that is a perfect time to visit some museums. I googled museums and free and found the schedule for which are free and when. A few weeks ago Aftonbladet had a special on Øl-kroer in Copenhagen so at least I have an extensive list of watering holes to visit if it is raining. :innocent:

Do you know of any good hotels by chance? Right now I am looking at the Grand Hotel which had some great rates and I understand it is close to the train station and everything else.

Thank you / Kiitos! :) Toivotaan, että kaikki menee OK.

I posted this question in a topic already, but it didn't get alot of responses.. Atleast not yet, and I'm inpatient. So hope y'all don't mind me asking it here too:

I was practising typing out the G-325A form and I noticed that I can't fit everything in the boxes, like for example my parents birth dates or four letter months in the employment and residence part. On the date of birth part it says (mm/dd/yyyy) so I'm sure I can't put 03/03/47? Also when I try to type "None" on the "File Number" and "Alien Registration Number" it won't let me, it changes it to alot of zeros... Anyone else had this problem? And how do you fix it? Is there a way to change the font smaller somehow? On the example forms here on VJ I see some boxes fit more than the blank forms.. But I can't type over the example form, since it's an old version?
