Hey ladies.

Recently I had given a birth to a beautiful baby boy and because of after birth complications i needed to start taking irth control.

Right now I am on Yaz but being that my husband is coming soon I want to take something that will be more of a long term not an every day thing. I was considerng either the shot (from which i have heard there is alot of weight gaining) for 3 months or Mirena... I like the idea of not having to worry about birth control for up to 5 years but i wanted to hear it from someone that has experiaced it. IS there any side effects, or anything i should br aware of about mirena?

Please share,

Thnx

With Mirena, there is a small implant that stays in your uterus, it has hormones and a wire designed for uterine irritation so that a fertilized egg will not be able to implant. There is a small and rare chance for uterine rupture, becoming imbedded, or causing pelvic inflammation. It can be removed at any time if you chose to become pregnant again as there is a small wire (string) that will hang from the opening of your cervix. There is also a chance, same as with Norplant, that you could be crampy and have spotting for the first 3-6 months. More rare side effects are back pain, weight gain, nausea, headache and depression. Of course, most women do just fine with this type of birth control and your Doctor will tell you the same. Also, there would be some pain during insertion as it will be inserted through your cervix, ironically the most ideal time for insertion is during your cycle as your cervix is naturally slightly open then.

I haven't tried it personally, as I chose not to use hormonal based birth controls. However, if you do use it please be aware of the possible side effects and let your doctor know immediately if you experience any of them. Also, you should not smoke at all, with any hormonal based birth controls.

I've used the NuvaRing in the past, which is a ring with a hormon that is inserted and rests around the outside of the cervix for 3 weeks and then it's removed and you'll start your period. It was convenient and you didn't feel it during most activities, however I feel that it caused irritation if left in during sex, plus the hormones in general don't agree with me. It can be removed for sex and rinsed with water before reinsertion, but that definitely lowers it's convenience factor.

Do you have to use a hormonal based birth control?

I used the copper IUD (it has no hormones) and the only problem I experienced with it was heavier periods. Other than that, it was fine. I have a friend who has the mirena, and her periods have all but stopped. That's normal from the hormone that is in it.

I just had a Mirena inserted in January. So far I don't like it. My periods are maybe a little bit lighter not much. I get nausea sometimes ( I thought I was pregnant at one point). What really is bad is when we have intercourse I start to bleed within a couple hours. First it's bright red then its dark brown afterwards and last for about 3 or 4 days. I know maybe its not in there right so I am calling the doctor on Monday. I am tired of it. I might just ask about getting my tubes tied. My friend got the mirena after she gave birth and it came out of her after her second period. I hope I didnt gross anybody out B) .

2ond Journey,

Maybe you're husband has been unfaithful? J/k.

Clue me in, Why do you think my husband has been unfaithfull? Another thing, why do men read a thread that is obviously for woman. Could it be you might be also thinking of getting a Mirena insertion also.

Try looking at the Mirena website.

http://www.mirena-us.com/index.jsp

It's hard to go by other women's experiences, because every woman reacts differently to different types of birth control. Just look at their information and see if it's right for you.
