Hello I created this topic because I am curious to know if USCIS keeps the citizen's certificate through the whole process, as many as you know, USCIS requires the Original certificate as proof of citizenship. So my question is.. if I submit my 129-F along with my certificate of citizenship, for how long does USCIS keeps it ? Thanks in advance for your information...

CherryXS thanks for the prompt response, but I am confused because on the 129Fins form says that I have to send the original for any government related paperwork such as passport, petition, etc. And I read that it is ilegal to make a copy of the certificate. So, that is why I am struggling to wait to get my passport and then apply...

You are misreading the instructions. The I-129F and G325a must be "original" but you send photocopies of everything else. If you sent your original passport, you wouldnt' be able to visit your loved one abroad.

USCIS keeps everything you send them. Don't send originals of supporting documentation.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
