Does anyone have experience extending a k2 visa. The reason i ask is i am worried that my fiancees' visa will come to soon. My fiancee has a son, but we do not intend to bring him right away. I am told that the k2 visa will be good for one year after being issues. This is where my problem lies. The time we want to get her son here in the US is June 2010. So if she gets her visa before June 2009 (which she most likely will considering we have been approved) the k2 will expire before the time we want to bring him here. The reason we plan to get him in June 2010 is because i am in the military but will be leaving it in the last week of may 2010, this is the time we would like to go vacation back to the PI and then bring her son back. How hard would it be to ask for an extension and are there any fees?

the K-2 will expire 6 mos. after issuance...

however, follow-to-join benefit is available for up to one year after the K-1 is issued.... and then upon issuance, the visa will then have a validity period of another 6 mos.

in your situiation you will want to delay the issuance of the K-2 and exercise the follow-to-join and have the K-2 issued next year (but before the one year anniversary of the K-1). Under FTJ, the K2 must be issued (not just applied for) before the one year time frame.

YMMV

The USCIS does not issue visas they approve the petition... You tell the consulate who actually issues the visas

YMMV
