A Simple Plan To Lose Weight: Gabrielle Reece

(thought this was one of the most common sense approaches to weight loss)

Along with some kind of resistance training...

Get out there and walk, bike, swim or any other activity that you can handle for 20-45 minutes. Do your best to safely break a sweat and if you can only go for 15 minutes, so be it. Just get moving. You can always increase your time as the weeks go on.

Sunday

Today is a rest day. Now if Sunday is a better day to train, then rest on another day. Create a schedule that works for you.

Food

I'm not going to tell you what to eat I'm just going to begin by giving you a few pointers.

  • Keep a food journal. That means write down everything you eat and drink during your day. Try to not eat a heavy dinner or eat too late.
  • Eat only until you are full (for most of us that is about eating half of the food we already consume). If you need to, just get it off your plate right away.
  • Don't wait to eat until you're starving. This leads to overeating.
  • Always carry a healthy snack to help you get to the next meal: handful of almonds, some fruit, or even a mini sandwich. No snack foods (chips, candy, fast food, fries, cookies, etc.).
  • Only drink water and your beloved coffee without all the other ingredients that turn it into a milkshake. This means no juices or sodas of any kind.
  • Choose your one night to have alcohol if you must, and it's better to have wine rather than beer or sugary cocktails (mojitos and martinis with sexy names).
  • Don't nuke it! Make your food yourself.
  • If you are feeling really motivated, then avoid food made of wheat (pasta, bread, and all baked goods of course). Be mindful that sugar and wheat can really impact your body weight.
  • On Sunday, eat what you want. This is not a license to go crazy -- this just means that you can relax, and get that much more fired up for Monday.

Actual counting calories, IMO, is bound to cause failure. Our stomach doesn't care whether we've reached our daily intake of calories, if it's really hungry, we'll eventually cave in and eat more.

It all makes so much sense... it's just so hard to do!!!

I've just started working out (hubby and I bought home exercise equipment and put in the bedroom my daughter used before she moved away to college). I am also trying to cut down on my portions and avoiding high-calorie treats.

Don't know how long it'll last, but I have high cholesterol and have gained 15 pounds since we got married!!!!!

I hear ya. Ever since our little one was born, I've been struggling to get to the gym to exercise...and unfortunately, because I sit at a computer all day for work, a gym was the only place I was really getting exercise. The weather has been warming up enough though to go for walks and last weekend, I put my son in a stroller and walked about 3 miles...and it felt so good. I used to take 15 minute afternoon walks at work...need to start doing it again. I think a lot of it is about trying to incorporate being active in our daily lives, even if it's taking the stairs instead the elevator. :)

I try to walk pretty much every day. I think my baby has gotten so used to it, she loves it and she recognizes the signs of getting ready (me getting my shoes on and stuff) now she goes and stands by the door. This past couple of weeks its been especially nice here in CA because spring is here and all the bulbs are starting to flower. Its a really pleasurable way to add some activity and fresh air to the day :)

Steven I bought resistance bands and use them while watching TV. You can sit there and work your arms and legs pretty mindlessly while watching your favorite show. It really helps :)

I've also found when I don't measure my food for awhile or write down what I'm eating, I find out I'm eating waaaay more than I thought. If you don't measure and keep a food log, at least check yourself every few weeks to make sure you're not going overboard on the cals.

it always worked for me. but i don't only count calories, it's all the nutritional count that works. when i log my food i make sure i am eating the amount of fiber necessary, proteins, check how much sugar and fat i'm taking, that all helps.

i've never been able to stick to any diet/weight loss plan but this one.

no soda-not even diet...its got too much sodium, fill up several water bottles w/ sugar free koolaid.

no eating after 7 pm-even if you think you're going to starve to death...we both know you won't.

eat your fist-yep, make a fist & don't eat anything bigger than that at 1 setting (thats all foods in that meal not each food)...no more than 1 setting in an hour.

move-force yourself to go to the gym either before or after work...make it part of your workday. don't gimme that i don't have time BS either. you've found time to hit the drive thru didn't you?

no days off-not even your birthday. you didn't take days off packin the pounds on did you?

Good advice there, especially the no days off given that most of my day is sitting while working. I used to try and not eat past 8pm, but I usually don't get home until past 8pm at night...and by then I'm starving so I'll scarf. And when Jinky makes Filipino style spaghetti, I fill my plate up with pasta and sauce. :(
