Just looking for opinions...

My husband and I are going for his AOS interview March 25th. I have been going over and over his paperwork and I think we are pretty well prepared but I am nervous about one thing. When he went for his K-1 medical in Jamaica he was never given a TB skin test, he had the chest x-ray, but no skin test. When we went to the civil surgeon to get the I-693A supplement filled out, the civil surgeon said his vaccinations were complete and signed off on the form, and again no TB skin test. We have already received AP, EAP, and since the interview is right around the corner do you think if we were going to get an RFE for the TB skin test we would have gotten it already? I know it is entirely possible that we will get one at the interview but I really hope not. Has anyone else been approved recently without having the skin test? It is my understanding the the skin test was required for all medicals completed June 1, 2008 and after and his was in July.

Thanks for any insight you might have (L)

Thanks, I think we are going to do that. I called the local medical center this morning and the test is $60, so I think we are going to go tomorrow morning. My only concern is that he was given the Tuberculosis vaccine when he was a baby so I am hoping that is not going to give a false positive reaction to the skin test

Most Jamaicans will test positive, more than likely he received the BCG vaccine as a child. They may do another chest x-ray.

That's kinda what I am figuring is going to happen. Hopefully we can resolve all of this before our interview on the 25th. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner... However with my luck, we will do all of this and they will approve us without the stupid TB junk anyway!

If i was in your situation, I would try to schedule another appointment with the civil surgeon and ask for a tb skin test and a chest x-ray if the tb skin test turns out positive. I am not sure if something from the health department would suffice, since they need the civil surgeon to sign off on stuff. But mind you, that is what I would do, because I'm incredibly paranoid. I saw one person who said they never had the tst and got approved, it was in their signature. I don't recall who it was however.

I just got back from my interview (the full review is in the review section on this site, search for our names and local office Honolulu) and they didn't ask us for the I-693.. I did give it though but I doubt he would have said anything if I didn't show it to him. Other people that I know that didn't had an I-693 also got approved, so also without the TB skintest (mine had the TB skintest though).

I doubt you will hear anything about it BUT if you want to absolutely sure, then just get the skintest.

As for the skintest, you should see if there is any government available program in your area. Here on Hawaii you can get the skintests and xrays for free, which is always better than paying 60 bucks ;)

Thanks everyone for your help. We are going to the Medical Center tomorrow, where the CS is, to get the skin test done. Our health insurance is going to cover the test! Woo Hoo! I am paranoid too and I want all of this to do down without a problem... I am know I am not the only one who is sick of paperwork! I am hoping for one of two things, #1 that his skin test is negative or #2 that the Immigration Officer doesn't notice the TB skin result is missing from the I-693 and doesn't ask for it. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me!

Just an update to anyone who reads this... My husband got the TB test and even though he had the BCG vaccine as a baby, his test came back NEGATIVE! So we had the CS put that on the I-693 just in case we need it for the interview!

I also had the BCG vaccine as a kid and my TB skin test was also negative. I was worried a little bit, but relieved to get a negative result.

Good luck to your interview :star:

I received my Greencard without RFE though I lack TB Skin Test on my I-693. Every IO is different so better do it while you still have time.

A skin test is not necessary because he has had the BCG vaccine and would test positive for TB using a skin test, therefore a chest x-ray or sputum sample would be the options for him. I know this is old, but posted for anyone who may be doing research.
