All expenses paid flight from Pennsylvania to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday for a job interview yesterday. Put up at the Sheraton Suites in FL. Palm trees, sun, more palm trees, water - lots of it, even more palm trees. Enchanted, bewitched, spellbound, you name it. Go to bed at 11 on Sunday night and wake up at 1am with a major case of Montezuma's Revenge. Spend all night in the throne room, cursing those god awful enchilada thingies I had at Charlotte airport on Sunday.

Go to the wrong building for the first of my interviews at 9am as the interview schedule had the wrong building on it. get to the other building 10 minutes late. Have interviews with 5 managers and they all go ok but the technical interview turns out to be a mare because when I am asked fairly straightforward things that I know the answer to, my mind is refuses to play along and I sit there like a fish out of water. I figured I had a 50-50 ration of answered questions to "que!?"

I fell in love with FL but I'm afraid it may always have to be a long distance affair after the Great White Traveller decided that he was to fecking cosmopolitan to eat a Big Mac for lunch! :(

I think that's a worthy Moan of the Day.

Thanks gimygirl. I'd been preparing for weeks, anticipating the kind of things I would be asked (and I wasn't far off the mark), it was just so frustrating to have prepared so much for something that was really important to Linda and I; to have it likely torpedoed because I wasn't careful enough.

I did explain to them but to me it just sounded like an excuse hopefully they didn't quite see it that way.

Well that just sux..........Murphy's Law in action.

From what my UK hubby has told me, you Brits are WAY to hard on yourselves when it comes to job interviews. If you explained you had a roaring case of the trots that kept you up all night, they just might understand.

Don't blame yourself.

revel in the fact that you got an interview.. In my experience, when you're supposed to get a job, all things come together working for you. If not, something some where does'nt quite click. Besides, there are underlying dynamics to every job. Some are already wired while some are genuinely need-driven.

i agree with Becca there Dave, you should have just let them know that you had eaten something that did not agree and apologised for being late because of that. And yes we brits are far too hard on ourselves when it comes to interviews perhaps more so when it is in a different country. Things will happen for you, just keep going

It's gotta be worth a follow-up; if they brought you down there they must have liked you.

A little email thanking them for their time, apologising for being poorly and offering yourself for a phone interview if they have further questions (particularly with the tech guy) probably wouldn't go amiss....

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.
