So, my relatives are (financially) sponsoring my wife, so they filled out a I-864. I am filling one out and I'm stuck on what to do for Q.8.

I am the person filing for her, but since I am a medical student and live solely on student loans I was not even planning on sending in any tax information.

So:

1) SHOULD I still send in tax info even with 0 income? and where on the form could I possibly interject that I'm a medical student, not living off the government or anything?

2) What should I put in Q.8, "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above." YES or NO?

3) and if I do put NO, then do I put her as 1 under "Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit"?

Help!

Ok so from searching I realize I should still maximize whatever assets I do have, and perhaps include a letter detailing that while I am not earning money currently I have an almost-guaranteed high-paying career in front of me?

I would think you would be considered unemployed, since you have zero income.

2) What should I put in Q.8, "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above." YES or NO?

"No" since you a having a co-sponsor help you.

3) and if I do put NO, then do I put her as 1 under "Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit"?

You would put 1 - since your wife is not being sponsored by you.

Help!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

That would be immaterial. They are only concerned about actual income. You could include a letter stating you are using a co-sponsor because you are currently a student, but that isn't really needed.

If you are using a co-sponsor, it doesn't matter how many assets you have, as long as your co-sponsor can cover the poverty level (125%).

Assets only come into play if the sponsors income isn't sufficient to cover this level.

From the I-864 Instructions:

Who Completes and Signs Form I-864?

The list below identifies who must become sponsors by completing and signing a Form I-864.

The U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident who filed a Form I-130 for a family member, Form I-129F for a fiance....

You, the petitioner must be a sponsor. Even without income. So you would answer YES on Q8.

Ah ok, thanks guys.

Bobby, the problem is I've heard of people being rejected if they have nothing at all to show for themselves, even if the co-sponsor is well past the poverty line.
