I don't think it's ever justified for a person to use it on anyone (including their own teenaged children), even if you have ample evidence that they are cheating, because it is violating their privacy.

You'd rather be a schmuck?

Trust is important, but so is respecting someone's privacy, even your spouses.

His distrust was not entirely unwarranted, was it? Intuitively, or subrationally, all humans know when they are being lied to or deceived. This is due to the nature of truth, which is what exists and it's absence, which has no existence.

A very simple method for determining whether someone is telling the truth is the use of muscle testing. It's best done with a partner but can be performed by an individual. Very simply, truth will elicity a strong muscle response and the lack of truth (falsehood) will be indicated by a weakening of the body's muscles. A person, the subject, stands with one extending an arm out to the side, palm facing downward. The other person, the tester, places their hand on the subject's wrist. The tester can either verbalize or silently hold in mind a statement, a feeling, the image of a person, place or thing, etc. While holding that in mind, the tester states "resist" and pushes down with only a few ounces of pressure just for a moment. If what is being held in mind is truthful, the arm will resist the downward pressure and 'lock.' If what is being held in mind is false, the arm will easily drop to the person's side. There are a few other operational procedures, but it's really that simple. People can try for themselves.

I'd never install a key logger. Not only would that violate trust, but it could leave sensitive data (i.e. passwords) vulnerable.

As for security... I'm constantly amazed by people who do their banking at Internet cafes or worse, on their cell phone. I have a Blackberry and on it there's the option to install applications for numerous financial institutions. I haven't done that since I'd have to be insane to do any sort of banking on a cell phone.
