Hello, everyone,

Hope you're all having some fun so far with the heat and sun :D:D:D

I spoke with an operator last night because I keep getting RFE's that only says sumbit OF ---DS 230 I: I know I have to add some documents too. The lady told me to send the Originals of 3 documents. Marriage, birth and police certificates.

Hello!!!??? DO they expect me to write the case numbers on the originals of such important documents? What happened to certified copies? I asked her and she still said originals. Did you all send the originals of your documents to the NVC or were they certified copies?

Any ideas? Our consulate is Accra, Ghana.

Thanks to yo'all!

You send originals (or certified copies where appropriate, such as a final decree of divorce, where you don't have access to the original but you can get a photocopy certified by the authorities with a "raised stamp" thing. (I hope that makes sense!) They'll return the originals to the beneficiary later. --We haven't written our case number on the originals... Do you need to? We just attached sticky notes.

King,

Are you getting RFE's from NVC? Your CR-1 has already been approved, right? I am just wondering why the NVC is also asking for documents submitted with the CR-1 package.

I'm not sure about Ghana but we got RFE'd for ORIGINALS or CERTIFIED COPIES. They would not accept the photocopies. We wrote our MTL #'s in pencil in the upper right corner.

Pencil is a great idea. I'm so confused I can't even think about little things :lol::lol:

Certified Copies are what you get from the relevant bodies that issue your documents. Certified Copies are what is referred to as originals.

Actually, with the exception of the police report, notarized copies of all the other documents were submitted when I filed the IR petition. I've no clue why they keep asking for the same documents over and over again. No clue at all!

Certified Copies are what you get from the relevant bodies that issue your documents. Certified Copies are what is referred to as originals.

This is where the confusion begins. In most parts of West Africa, a certified copy of a document is a photocopy with the expression " This is a true copy of the original document ...." and signed with the seal of a notary public.

Why can't NVC say originals??? The entire world knows that original is original. No way around it.

That depends on the country you will be interviewing. When you are applying from Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa one is required to submit much more, including birth certificate, police certificates etc along with both parts I & II of the DS-230. When you are not applying from one of those countries, only a copy of biographics page of passport is required along with part I of the DS-230.

KingMedusa, I don't think certified copies and notarized copies are the same.

As Aussiewench has posted, you get certified copies "from the relevant bodies that issue your documents".

For example, here in Canada, I had to go to the Civil Registry to get a 2nd copy of my marriage certificate (I need one for my K-3 application and one for my I-130). What they gave me was a certified copy. The same with my birth certificate. I wanted a second certified copy. So I had to apply for one from the National Statistics Office in the Philippines where I was born. I couldn't just go to a notary and have them notarize my first certified copy of the birth certificate.

Does that make sense?
