Love like this? Never.

Yeah....sigh....me too Lisa :) I know what true love is...real love..totally unconditional. Joel is absolutely the best thing to happen to me in such a long time...he's the other half of me. Not soulmates, but the other half. Without him I only exist. I mean, it's like....sheesh....how do I explain this: When we are together, I feel complete. It's like, now I wonder what I did before he came into my life! He's my world...my life.

Karen!!! Long time no see!!! You and Joel must be keeping busy with laundry!!!

Miss you guys! :luv:

In love one other time, but at that time there was a different meaning to life for me. I was married to him for 15 years by the time we were finished we were roomates more than anything.

Tim came along during a time when I knew there was something more I needed from my life. We were both in marriages that were probably long over due in the divorce department. We built a friendship and discussed what we were missing, what we wanted from our partners, and our life, what we had in the past and what we needed for the future. His thoughts, dreams, ways all fit so perfectly with what I needed and here we are 3 years later.

I recall during our first visit with one another standing in the kitchen and suddenly singing outloud the song by Sara Evans, mind you I am not a huge country fan. At that moment all I could do was laugh and cry at the same time with the discovery of what a wonderful man God had brought into my life. Now I just feel like all the years before were nothing more than a learning experience/training so that I could finally honestly love and be loved.

(L) These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive

These are the moments I'll remember all my life

I found all I've waited for

And I could not ask for more

Looking in your eyes

Seeing all I need

Everything you are is everything to me

These are the moments I know heaven must exist

These are the moments all I need is this

I have all I've waited for

And I could not ask for more (L)

awww  mushy topic! lol

I believe our perception of what being 'in love' means changes over time and circumstance.

I have thought i was 'in love' in the past, but it later turned out that maybe it wasn't - I say maybe because sometimes things change when you get to know a person more - that initial buzz isn't there - and I know that wears off somewhat over time - but it isn't replaced by deeper feelings either..

I used to think being 'in love' soley meant my heart would beat faster and I'd feel all mooshy inside - but I don't think that's love now. I think real love is when thinking about never seeing a person again makes you feel panicky inside - when being with them gives you an inner strength - something that buoys you up and impacts on you own sense of 'self'. With them you are stronger, happier, more complete..and without them you have an empty hole that just makes everything feel 'wrong'. And it doesn't go away or get better over time; it just gets easier to deal with, like a death does. Its feeling needed, not just wanted, and needing them in return.

I'm not saying that you don't ALSO feel the atrraction of / to the other person, the chemistry or whatever you want to call it, but that those things ALONE don't 'real love' make.

Thats my thoughts anyways :)

AMEN! This has got really mushy-I love it!

I agree that what you wanted/needed/thought/needed changes over time. My first love was all encompassing but would be totally inadequate to what I need at this point in my life. Doesn't take away from what I felt at the time and I do believe that I was in love with him, but I really think that for me mature love is better.

I never thought I could re-experience all those heady, excited, infatuated feelings plus mutual trust, respect, caring and the sense of really wanting to build a future together :luv: . No need for games at this age either, thank God - we are actually building a relationship on honesty. Of course, I'm also far happier in myself than I was in my early twenties and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it too. I was so insecure and constantly worrying that he was going to leave me. Never crosses my mind now I'm with John.

I also think that love is actually very rare. I don't think most people find it more than once or twice in a lifetime (L) and this thread seems to bear that out so far.
