My answer is that I've only been in love once before, when I was 20. I was 38 when I met John and was somewhat startled to discover that I suddenly felt like a 20 year old again  and realised that in the intervening years I'd just been treading water.

I used to think that what I'd experienced at 20 was something I'd never have again, that it was just a one-off combination of first love, youth, experiencing great sex for the first time etc. I was wrong - hurrah!!! (Shame about the Wasteland between 23 and 38 though!)

I'm curious to hear other people's experiences.

Love like this? Never.

Ditto. Some good ones, but none even close to this.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

That's a funny question.......if you were truly in love then you would still be together with that person I would think.

In a sense, everything in the past could not have been real love.

Interesting slant. I think in some cases people can be in love, but just not be able to live together. I don't know maybe I just like to think that way because that's what my parents always told me after their divorce.

I know what you mean though. I THOUGHT I was in love once or twice before, makes me laugh now thinking about it, when I compare it to the way I feel about my husband now. But I don't know how to answer the question - does it count when you change your mind???

I was married once before, and I WAS truly in love. However, you can't stay together if only one of the pair truly feels it. We split up even though I was truly in love, he impregnated a teenager when we had been married 10 years.

:angry::o:wacko:

Now is the second time I've been in love, and there is nothing like it. Seems like before was just a trial run. I think that sometimes you have to experience heartache to really appreciate the fabulous things to come.

Well, yes, it's a two way thing. My first love fell out of love with me - that was a hard lesson! :crying: He met someone else and married her nine months later. Wasn't my idea!

I was in love with my first husband, the father of my children, trouble was our life style was military and it was definitley not good for marriage ;) although some may beg to differ on that one. It became increasingly obvious that he did not feel the same for me (the girl in every port syndrome) and this eventually killed all feeling for him.

Then I met Alan  when I was 32 and he was 24 ( my toy boy  ) was just coming out of the divorce so for a time thought it was out of the frying pan and into the fire with him being younger than me but how wrong that has turned out to be.

We have been together for 28 years and we have grown together and can honestly say, with hand on heart, that we love each other more now than we did 28 years ago. In the early days the sexual aspect came into it so much and even though we are not quite the "bunnies" we used to be  what we have is deeper, more understanding and so good, so yes I was in love once before but know that if I should lose Alan I could never find this again (L)

I fell in love with a man when I was 19. His name was Billy. He was wonderful in everyway. Both of us were trying to get into the service but I got accepted and he didn't. I thought the right thing to do was to end it with him because I didn't want to be a constant reminder. Fast forward...I got a letter from his cousin in 2004. Come to find out, after I left for BT..Billy got a medical waiver and was able to go forward. He went into the Army and was still very much in love with me. Unfortunately he was killed in the war. Did I ever think I would find someone like him? Not in a million years. But then I met Ian who has surpassed the love I had for Billy. Maybe it is because I am more mature now, ..I don't know. All I know is that if Billy was alive today and I had to choose...It would be Ian hands down. I still believe though that a person can love more than once. It may take time to love again, but it isn't impossible.

Love like this? Never.

same with me.

I am 27 and I thought maybe I was in love before.

I think I was talking myself into it more than anything! I was so young.

I think I loved my high school boyfriend the way you do with first real things...

But a love like this. Never before!

Twice. The first time at 24 but as has been said, it has to be both ways for a relationship to survive. The second time I was 38 and we were together 9 years. We both grew in different directions. Love didn't die in either case and I still feel love for both these men, but there is no pull towards either of them anymore. When I ended the 2nd relationship (it took 3 years to end) I did not know if I would ever find anyone else again in my whole life, but realized that even if that were the case I would be happier alone than I was in that relationship. Joe took me completely by surprise because I wasn't expecting anyone or even looking for someone. We were in love before either of us knew what was happening. Third time lucky, I guess, because I am happier than I ever imagined I could be.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
