I dont like Dells, they always have issues. So many in fact, that Dell now has a new option for when you are buying a PC or laptop, that for an extra $15, they provide US based customer service line. I guess all the Indians were just telling people to keep restarting their computer and other b.s. answers that dont fix a thing.

I had a toshiba, and it was funky in the beggining, but lasted 2 yrs, then just died. Now i got an hp and so far it rocks! Its not under $500, but you get what you pay for.

My recommendation is not to get the AMD processor, they are like Intel knock-offs.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Actually, Dell's CS-centre appears to be located in BC rather than in India (I remember getting a call from them once and it had a '604' area-code...)

I have to say Dell's customer service has improved a lot from the "Dell Hell" of 10 or so years ago.

They have in-house tech support guys now who can connect to your machine over the internet and fix basic problems.

Few months ago one of their techies even helped me find and remove a bad hardware installation so I could get my printer working again.

How can you use a laptop with your wife sitting on your lap? But they are sure coming down in price, have a couple of super fast Toshiba Satellites with a 166 MHz processor that I paid around 3,000 bucks a piece for. Still work on the net, wonder if I can get ten bucks each on ebay for them. Still like new. Wife likes her HP, but got a docking stand for it, has that expanded keyboard with the numeric pad, 17" screen. She only used it as a laptop once or twice. HP also extended the warranty on it for two years due to a cooling fan error. If it doesn't blow before then, may help it along a bit. Has a new main board. They FedEx a prepaid box and send it back to you within a week, son's went out in 13 months.

Have you taken a look at the Dell Outlet prices? You might find a good deal there. I'd also recommend (this is a bit sneaky, but worth a shot) going to a University website and seeing if they have a linked discount. My university has a deal with both Dell and Mac for example. I think the educational discount is something like 10-15%. You should check out the online coupon sites too, because sometimes you can stack the Dell coupons.

I currently have a Dell Latitude...it's not as flashy as some of their computers, but it has behaved itself well. I think the business orientated laptops are a bit less sensitive to wear and tear. The battery wasn't the best, but Dell replaced it without having a conniption.

I haven't bought a tower PC for a long time, so I'm not sure what the deal is with those these days.

I'm not sure what sort of warranty you want...but I've heard good things about www.squaretrade.com.

With dell you can learn how to fix your own pc..but not all are inconvinient,.in most companies in the US. we use dell in the office..you are right, if you want personal pc better stick with hp or mac which doesn't require learning the Operating Systems (all the techi stuff).. the techi people fixes everything for you..

If you'd like to learn more about computers get Dell.

The hardest part that I had to do in my life is to leave you behind and make u wait..until we meet again!!!

Even the cheapest Mac will outperform the PC laptop.

No need to worry about crashes (almost never), and no worries for getting a CTD (computer transmitted disease); so you do not need to practice safe computing!

And part two:

Mac is ready to use straight out of the box.

No fuss no muss.

Plug in your mp3 player, your camera, anything and watch it just work.

I am a convert....as are many PC friends.

HAL 9000 appreciates your PSA for CTD awareness, Spirit. Indeed... it is for the good of other systems as I am immune from all Windows and MAC viruses.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
