Please keep in the Canada forum :) There needs to be a thread for the Canadian chicks to discuss, well, .... chick maintenance :)

Okay, I am impressed with Jill because I have never had the guts for that type of waxing. I flinch when I get my EYEBROWS waxed, so I am afraid that other body part would be torture. I'll suffer with the bikini cream ickiness unless someone can convince me it really isn't THAT bad to do the waxing.

I hate waxing. Before I got married, my mother in law took me out to this beauty salon to get my eye brows waxed. There was nothing wrong with them, but she wanted me to have those ''sexy'' eyebrows. :S So needless to say, I went through with it and it hurt. I hate waxing, I'm too much of a tom boy, and my face is sensitive, so I doubt that helped..

I tried a "do it yourself" kit once and it was the most painful thing EVER! I'm too shy to go get it done by a professional, but I wish I could! I'm very sensitive to all those creams and I hate shaving!

The only kind of waxing I can handle is the eyebrow waxing, and boy do they get red and irritated! For my bikini zone I just use Nair, haven't had a problem with it yet. I have tried eyebrow sugaring which feels the same as waxing but I guess it is supposed to be less harsh on your skin. Speaking of which my brows look really bad! Time to make an appointment!

Well, since this is a girly thread, and it didn't say I was to stay out of the thread, then I think I should be able to post.

I will say first off that I've never had a bikini wax. The only thing I've ever had waxed is my eyebrows which I have done at the same time as I have my hair cut, every six weeks. My eyebrows certainly don't seem to grow wildly like they did in my youth, so the timing for needing a waxing there, is perfect. I used to pluck my eyebrows and I'm sure that toughened that area up, so that's why it doesn't seem to bother me.

I've always been a full-figured lady, so I've never needed nor desired to have any type of bikini wax. There are so many different types as well. If you want the basic, which is the American one, then I suppose that you could have one, and it would be a little tender and red for awhile, however for the other types, such as Brazilian, French, landing strip, or other such types, I say...WHY???

I understand that waxing, or hair removal from that area has been done in the Middle East and India for thousands of years, but it's certainly not done because of bikini's!

Total genital hair removal to me is totally wrong. There is a reason why your hair is there, for hygenic reasons. I would also say that I have counselled many men who like their women to have no, or little pubic hair. I wasn't counselling them because I personally don't like the idea, and they weren't in counselling because they wanted their partners to have it done. They were in counselling because they were sexual offenders, and many preferred to have their partners or girlfriends look pre-pubescent!

Has anyone here ever had an infected hair folicle there? The incident of problems down there due to shaving or waxing are enormous. I did have one there, and I don't shave or wax there, and it was very very painful. I didn't know what the heck I had, but I was walking about bowlegged because I couldn't close my legs properly because it was so painful. My doctor asked if I had ever shaved or waxed my pubic area. I said, no! She said, she sees at least two women a week for growths like this due to ingrown hairs infecting, when the hair is growning back after waxing or shaving the area. She said this is only one of the reasons that she tells women to please stop doing this.

If you're concerned about hair sprouting out between your thighs outside of the bathing suit, then trim it down with some scissors. If you have some huge hairly line from your naval to the top of your bikini, and can't absolutely stand it, then maybe wax it, and cringe in pain if you want. But really, if you're wearing a bikini, and it's certainly your choice, that is so tiny that any public hair could escape, and you want either a landing strip type of wax, or a heart shape or whatever, think about the ingrown hair folicle infection that I mentioned.

I'm not berating anyone that does it, nor judging anyone that's thinking of having it done!

Carla.. that's some seriously great advice there.. I've never waxed down there (other than worn panties and had them wax the thigh areas).. I only did that once it hurt so bad. But I agree the more times you wax, the less it hurts.. and make sure you get good sleep before a waxing session.. lack of sleep makes it more painful.. :)

I use an old razor my ex hubby had and use the trimmer feature to trim that area (there is always a little bit of hair left).. but that works for me and doesn't cause ingrowns .. TMI maybe?

You're worried about TMI after what I said? You silly girl! hugs!

Your comment on lack of sleep is so true, even for my eyebrows. My hairdresser also told me about having waxing done before your period, and even pedicures...how if you do them during this time you'll note your skin is more sensitive and your pain tolerance is lower.

I had to laugh when I saw the thread - but lt me add my 2 cents.

I am well seasoned in chick maintenance. I have been plucking and waxing the eyebrows since about 13 when I read about it in a beauty tip book! I actually don't need to do much maintenance on them anymore - just a few strays every now and then. On the waxing front I've had every type done with the exception of a brazilian - just cannot bring myself to spread my legs and let it all hang out (plus - they DO wax further 'back' shall we say, and that can't be a good feeling) . Most other types you can still wear gitch and have some decency happening. I like the effect of waxing aside from the 1st day when I'm a mass of red bumps. I do not like having to 'grow it out' because who wants to have braidable hair while you're waiting for the waxing appointment????? I know...eww

The underarms are nice in my opinion, the hair is gone for a decent amount of time (good for vacation, no itch like shaving) but again, there's an awful period where you look like a bush woman.

I'll admit that my personal preference is the 'less is more' option. nothing to do with the little girl syndrome, although I totally understand Carla's counselling comments on that. My husband probably wouldn't care if I shaved for weeks. Electric trimmers work great if you go that route (think brush cut if that helps).

I dunno - it's just hair - remove it, love it, fluff it, doesn't botehr me either way - just don't show up in a bathsuit with your pubs poking through the material at a public pool...PLEASE :D

I tried the do it yourself kits too, I use the wax strips to do my eyebrows or I get them threaded which is by far the best way to do it imo.

I tried the cream once for my bikini area. I woke up at 3:00 in the morning with a burning #######... worst pain ever! I didn't even go near the sensitive parts, just the bikini line and my inner thighs but my skin just reacted so bad to the stuff. Never again.

They just recently opened a theading studio in the local mall here. There are lots of pictures for you to see the before and after. It looks lovely.

What would you say are the benefits of threading over having them waxed? Certainly waxing takes less time...takes only 1 min. while I'm there for a haircut. I did note that threading costs a lot more. Interested in hearing what you know about it, and your own experience.

Threading doesn't hurt as much as tweezing or waxing, they're just going over your eyebrows with thread and taking out hairs line by line. It takes a little longer but I find it works a lot better than waxing and it can be more precise and give your brows a cleaner look. Plus you don't leave with an irritated feeling and there's no redness. It's more expensive but it's worth it.

I only exclusively wax "down there" as shaving just really really irritates my skin. I don't do brazilian though because I'm too chicken. Plus, I'm actually really lazy, and shaving just requires too much regular maintenence! When I get a wax, it lasts me about 7 or 8 weeks.

A really good waxer makes the whole experience very quick and very painless. I'm in and out within 10 minutes. She talks to me the whole time too, so I dont' even flinch anymore. I'm actually really sad to be leaving my waxer, she's really talented.

Anyways, in our discussions and her trying to convince me to do a brazilian - which I think I'm going to do before I move - she said that worst area is right at the front - the landing strip if you you will, lol. She said the lower parts are actually less painful, which I have to agree on from my experience so far.

A lot of people compare waxing your eyebrows to down there and it's really a different pain for me. I find that my eyebrows hurt more... my skin just kind of tingles down there and the initial rip is over so quickly and it's not as repitive as waxing your eyebrows.

Okay I think I've said enough, LOL.

See I'd try waxing down there but it's so hard for me to go and spread em for some person I don't know. It's hard enough to do it for a doctor, now I have to go do it at a salon...

Not that I think I have a magical ####### or anything... I mean I am sure these people have seen one so they've seen them all. Its an inner battle, one of these days I'm just going to do it. :P
