How do you manage to get auto insurance for your spouse in the US considering they can't get a valid state driving license until after EAD is received during AOS timeline?

My car insurance company wants to see her CA driver license, which she won't get for another 3 months when she gets the EAD.

Note: we haven't filed for AOS yet, waiting for the vaccination form to be filled by a honest Civil Surgeon... I know about Dr. Arnold in Texas, thanks

why does she need to be on the auto insurance? if and when she gets her license, you can add her, but for now...I think the occasional driving she may be doing (provided she has a foreign license) will be covered by the fact that the car is insured. we did not add my husband until after he had his EAD and got his driving license.

I'd wait 'til she got her DL in order to put her on your insurance, HOWEVER, make sure you tell your insurance company you got married so you can get the di$ount

My husband just added me up on his auto insurance. I'm driving my own car but the insurance is under my husband's name. The insurance just asked for the number of my license (foreign).

I was driving with my brazilian DL until I received my GC and got a TX DL.

My husband consulted with the insurance company which said it was OK because 'they don't insure people, they insure vehicles'.

After I got my DL we added my name under the policy. But I think it makes sense.

I did one of those online quotes through Progressive and they had the option of a foreign driver. Though I chose to exclude my husband from the policy for now (until he gets his greencard and then DL). I find the "insure cars, not people" statement interesting. Because now on my new policy it lists our names and has "excluded" next to my husband.. so what does that mean if he gets into an accident while we're driving?

Insurance companies insure car not people. That is true. But, does it mean that irregardless of who is driving the car, insurance company would still pay any damages in case of an accident.

My husband and I had a discussion on that. I clearly asked him that in case i have an accident while I'm driving our car, would the insurance pay him. Next day, he added me up in his insurance.

This is one scenario that should be clarified with the insurance company.

Hmmm, I added my wife to the insurance even though she had never had a DL in any country. The reason, simple, married discount, about 15%. She now has a permit, no interest in driving though. Someday

We used geico. My husband gave them my driver's license number. They dont care that its a foreign license.

You got a discount with Geico coz you are married? What is the procedure? We are using Geico too. I'm here in AZ.
