Good day..

Please kindly enlighten me on this question I have..

My husband and I got married a month ago and I just noticed now that on his Certificate of Naturalization, marital status is single (as he got this certificate a year or so ago). How can we change that? Do we have to apply to USCIS? If so, what form do we need? I've searched but can't find any info.

Thanks everyone!

I guess you can ask for a replacement, but it probably should not matter since the naturalization happens before your got married then they know life goes on, people get married, have kids etc and that is understood that on the date of his oath he was single. my husband was naturalized 10 yrs ago and it implied he may not stay single forever. So in other words i guess you just apply for a replacement, but I don't think his status should matter much.

Oh great.. thanks for the reply.. I guess you do have a good point b/c we have the marriage cert as proof anyway.. :)

I just wasnt sure if it matters or not. Another question though.. but he does need to inform Social Security about the marital status change, right??

US Citizen does not need to change the certificate. It just shows marital status at the time they were approved for citizenship.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

He needs to inform them of his citizenship status, but you don't need to let them you you are married, i think they will know this when he changes his status w/ his job. That's what we did and I think it can be changed that way. Otherwise you want, if you could go there and let them know, but I don't think you need to.

You got me to wondering as I have never changed my SS status, just looked at the SS-5 application form, no place to list your marital status. Check my wife's USC certificate, I see she is married, guess I never looked at that before. I don't have a USC certificate :( guess it is because I was born here. If you are a woman and use your married name, would have to change that with SS, but they don't do that to guys. Wouldn't be the least concerned about your husbands marital status on his certificate, same as if he was born here and that is all that counts.
