Why is Valentine's day perceived to be all about the girls though? Just because Hallmark likes pink?

Societal expectations, I suppose.

I never understood the real point behind Valentine's Day. Why wait for one day during the year to show your SO that you love them? Because you're expected to do so? If anything, that makes the gifts (and whatever else) mean less if it's done on Valentine's Day.

I have to agree - although I think the original meaning of Valentine's has probably been lost in the midst of advertising.
