I noticed from the "Hometown Canada" thread that we've got at least 3 Canucks fans here, and it occurred to me that we don't talk a whole lot about hockey here, do we? I just ran a search for "hockey", and scanned through thread titles going back to mid-2007, and didn't see any kind of general hockey thread. Hockey is pretty much my favourite thing in the world. I haven't figured out if it's just an effective distraction from everyday life, or if it actually IS everyday life for me. Heheh.

Anyway, so let's hear it! Favourite team(s) - NHL or otherwise? Favourite players? Thoughts on the NHL playoff race? Thoughts on the GM meetings in Florida about rule changes etc.? Anything else?

Discuss!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Heheheheh! I hate the Rangers on account of the pain they caused me in 1994. I was just a kid, and game 7 broke my fragile little heart! How are you enjoying having Naslund on the team this season?

Used to be an oilers fan, but then they traded Gretzky, since then have rooted for the Flames. Now that I live in the DC area, root for the Caps as well.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

LEAFS!! Born and raised a fan... some years make me regret it though

I've also adopted the Avalanche as my #2... We can blame my Coloradan fiance. That and my favorite leafs man is playing there now... Darcy Tucker (L)

I'm more of a NASCAR girl, but my husband watches hockey now all the time. He didn't even know Carolina had a team until he started dating me :P Had never even watched a hockey game before then either, now I'm a hockey widow ;)

I usually only watch a game when the 'Canes are playing the Leafs. I wouldn't mind going to see a game, but we live 4 hours+ from Raleigh, so we'd have to make a weekend of it, and board the dogs, which then makes it a very expensive weekend!

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Interestingly in Canada I watched a lot of hockey. My favourite team was the Leafs. Since moving here, and Gene not being a big hockey fan at all, instead we watch a ton of baseball. Cheaper to go to games as well.

Interestingly, we're home here to the St. Louis Blues, a team that in 1983 was going to be sold and Saskatoon was going to buy them. At that time, maybe even now, a team move had to be approved. Harold Ballard was a hold-out and refused to let the team move. He was a crotchity guy and insisted that the Blues would not be moved to a city where people travelled to work on dog sled, and ate bear meat! :wow:

Good thing they didn't move I'm thinking now. They probably would have been sold because I'm sure the province wouldn't have been able to financially support them now.

The only reason I ever watch Hockey is to see my cousin play...he was just recently traded back to the Canadians..he started with them and probably will end with them...and so he is also my favorite player...Matthieu Schneider. He's been in the olympics twice and I watched only his games then as well...

I am a die hard Boston Red Sox fan....being born and raised here, its in my blood. I can't help it. I don't even think I've ever watched a Bruins game except when Matt first started out and they were playing the Canadians or any of the other teams he's played for in between(which have been a few)

I grew up a Leafs fan because of CBC but turned into a Sens fan eventually because I think it's an overall better organization.

All three of us played hockey, my brother, myself and I. I also played ringette. So, I was always at the arena.

My little brother is bouncing around right now between the ECHL and the AHL so fingers crossed that he will get a good contract soon. He played in the QMJHL.

My older brother played in the OHL and then took a break, th en went back to hockey and played in the southern pro league down in Georgia. It was kind of a ###### show.

So, I'm an all around hockey fan but I will say the best years with my brothers were when they were playing junior. It was so exciting and a lot of fun.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Hockey sucks, College Football Rules. Go ALABAMA and GEORGIA (my two favorite teams).

I did go to an Avalanche game a few months ago because someone had free tickets. I got a free tee-shirt from someone shooting them from hand canons. They played some canadian team and beat them. Think Alberta team or something.

Wife and I had no clue about the rules or what was going on, but it was fun watching it in the arena with all the crazy die hard hockey fans going nuts everytime the Avs scored...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

What team did you play hockey for?

I started playing ringette, and eventually switched to hockey myself.

Started out as a Leafs fan, but since moving to DC have become a Caps fan. I could probably tell you maybe 2 players on the Leafs now.

Even made it to Caps playoff games last year...NEVER had a chance to do that in Toronto.

Game 1 and Game 7...pretty awesome time.

I only played single A hockey in Kitchener for a couple of years. I was extremely dedicated to ringette and couldn't give it up. Played until I was 17 years old. I even had knee surgery at 16 and STILL played another season. I played AA ringette for kitchener and waterloo. I found the girls hockey was slow and boring for me. Ringette is a really fast game and I was just so in love with it.

Being a Montrealer, I am a HABS fan through and through! My Dad had season tickets growing up and we went to so many games. I used to LOVE Jose Theodore, he was one sexy goalie if you ask me. Now I love Saku Koivu just because he's been through so much personally and is a great leader. They are going through some ####### right now, but I hope to see them bounce back soon! I have some great memories of the old Montreal forum (that's now a shopping mall/cinema!)

**forgot to say, Americans generally have no idea the Canadiens are referred to as the HABS in Canada. So when I speak of the Habs they have no clue what that is so I have to explain where the nickname came from, etc.

Yeah, this is why we've never been to any Blues games. Oddly enough, Blues tickets are still not as overpriced as Rams tickets. I mean, hello, who wants to pay $80---plus parking---to see the hapless Rams get crushed?

We love the Blues and Chris Mason. They are pretty hot right now, but it may not be enough to make up for the crappy start they got off to, plus there is still time to have that end-of-the-season slump that seems to be obligatory for all St Louis teams (except, of course, for the Rams, who have nothing to really slump from).
