I will be sending off my income tax return to the Intl Tax centre in Ottawa this week (the first as a non-resident) and was just curious as to how long approx it has been taking for people to get their refund back? I was talking to someone there a few weeks ago and they told me it would take approx. 4 - 6 weeks but my tax preparer thought it would take longer. Sure going to miss the ablility to e-file from now on.

Sorry, the International Tax Office is notoriously slow. I think you should expect to wait longer than 4 to 6 weeks. If you don't have Canadian income next year than you won't have to deal with the International Tax office any more - you would only file in the US and you should be able to e-file those.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks Kathryn, unfortunately I still commute to work in Canada every day so will still have to do with it every year.

One would hope that things would be speedier than they were last year, however I know from experience that last year, I saw on the website that refunds would take approximately 3 months, and it took about 5 or 6 for mine. Sorry to relay the bad news.

Boooooo! I just did my 2008 Canadian return (yes, that's 1 of 3 I have to do right now - done)

Oh and I did have some questions so gave them a call, they were very helpful btw. This reminds me I need to get those returns printed off and in the mail!
