When on your IR-1/CR-1 visa process can you change your maiden name?

HEY everyone.. My husband and I sent our I-130 March 3rd and it was delivered March 5th. I was wondering.. When during the process can I change my maiden name to my husband's family name??

I-130 Approved : 08-07-2009 (148 days)

Green Card: 11-24-09

Removing of Conditions
I-751 Sent: 8-15-2011
I-751 Delivered at CSC: 8-17-2011

you can change it anytime but the visa will be granted in the name that appears on your passport. so if you are looking for the visa to be issued in your married name, then get it changed on your passport.

The greencard will be issued in the name you request, whether it matches the passport or not. It is definitely a good idea to have them match.

I requested my name change at the very start of the process when we submitted our I-130.

Since we did it in person the consular officer simply crossed out my maiden surname, wrote my married surname in it's place. Then wrote my maiden name in the 'Other Names Used' section.

Your visa will be issued in your married name, with an annotation to your maiden name if that's what your passport is still in. And both SSC and green card will come in your married name.
