...after a major rise in outlays this year, due to the stimulus package, federal spending as a share of the gross domestic product is projected to fall back to twenty-two per cent by 2013, which represents a rise of just one per cent over last year’s figure.

Yeah, ok - the key words being "projected" and "by 2013".

In the meantime (2009-2012), our national debt will go from 60% to over 100% of the GDP.

Something they don't want you to know.

$200,000 for a gang-tattoo-removal program is ridiculous, even if it helps prevent crime.

well, this one is #######. i don't know if tattoos directly instigate crimes.

they should just tattoo long sleeves and pants and shirts over these folks, it would be cheaper.

Well, it actually can. Getting initiated into a gang generally means getting tattoos of the gang. If this person leaves the gang later, it doesn't make they are safe. As long as they continue to have a gang tattoos, they may be targeted and killed by rival gangs.

Depending on what the person does for work, covering the tattoo may not always be possible.

And this is the taxpayer's problem? So I should give a sh*t about some gangbanger that pissed in his own bowl of Cheerios? Ha! Gimme a break! My heart is bleeding all over the place...not.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

"Earmark opponent Jeff Flake and former presidential candidate Ron Paul were the only Republicans who did not vote in favor of the measure, which passed 371-19"

Which only goes to show even more that Ron Paul is who should be president if spending will ever be under control.

Republicans and Democrats bought spend money wastefully, but at least Republicans might lower taxes so that I get to keep more of my money.

I read that first paragraph and I thought finally we were going to get some broad bipartisan agreement but oh hell no, that was just a segue in to some Republican and Reagan bashing. I fell for it..sigh.

Some of you repubs are the quintessential history revisionists.

Let's take a look at the national debt over the years under the different Administrations.

Good lawdy the Right Wing Media has you guys so deep in their delusions, you don't know which way is up. :jest:

I was not real happy about the way the Bush administration handled the budget. I was not real happy when Clinton gave Dole the Medal of Freedom for "saving" social security. I have no delusions, unlike many of my friends on the left and on the right.

Countless conservatives complained about Bushes spending but Democrats will never acknowledge it, they just try to paint us as sheep.

The first paragraph had 4 or 5 measures that any reasonable minded person could agree were ridiculous, then the next 7 paragraphs were about 1 of those measures thus turning it into anything but bipartisan. Im not complaining about you exposing that ridiculous birthday party but I wasnt expecting that to be a segue into republican bash fest.

We had a chance to bring everyone together her at VJ :crying::lol:

I think the OP makes a very strong point - that is the Republican Leaders who've been so critical of projects like the tattoo removal as wasteful spending, plan on spending a million dollars for a birthday party for Reagan, and put it on the taxpayers tab.

...and the larger issue here is - why all of sudden are the Republican Leaders, like Congressman Boehner and Sen. McConnell up in arms over concerns of the national debt? Where were they during the last 8 friggin years? It's one thing to walk the walk, but talk is just talk when those leaders claim they are fiscally conservative....makes me burst out in laughter - like those effigies you have in your siggie.

Glen Beck is the man!

 You repugs are a riot. Worrying about the debt now, eh?

weren't you one of them rattling on about the cost of the iraq war? 500 billion in 5 years - and obama has outspent that and then some in just a month or so?
