That's debatable. :hehe:

Besides you can't just throw a down comforter into the washing machine.

My other half's comforter is also not very 'comforting' being as it is, about a third of an inch thick - you can also get duvets which you can 'sandwich' together so you can have a thin one for summer (or fall if your summer is too hot for anything) and then button on a thicker part for those cold (in NC anyways) winter months :)

And I hate 'down' in anything cos of allergies and you can't shove those ones in the machine either.

and cheap when you get them on sale. No fancy additions like buttons or ribbons or things to get in the way of a good wash either. Just use some velcro or snaps on the bottom opening (or be lazy like me and just leave a hole!)

PS - most duvet and duvet cover needs can be met at IKEA, in a pinch.

Ha ! What a funny thread... since the day I got here 5 months ago Ive searched and searched for a DUVET !

its driving my husband crazy - but he understands my point, he was very cosy in my duvet when he visited me over in England.

Ive been trying to explain to everyone how you can wash them, you dont need a top sheet, just one throw over and the bed is made ! nobody understands !

so.... is there anywhere to get one? :P

Why not? i've thrown mine in the wash before... just use cold water and not much soap and hang it to dry.. turned out alright.. the feathers are from waterfowl.. i'm sure it got wet before!

But yes, once when i was in a hotel in Germany they had massively thick duvets there and they were wonderfully warm to sleep under! It was great...

someone or someones has to set the record straight for me because i'm totally confused on this. my husband's and i first argument as a newlywed couple occurred in target over the bed linen confusion. and i've read the previous thread on this and it gave me a headache.

so here we go. in australia i've always had a 'doona' inside a doona cover. okay then, i was under the impression that a doona translated into a 'comforter' in the US, with the one exception that it had a pretty fabric ontop so that it did not require what i know to be a 'doona cover'. so we purchased a goose down comforter, however now goose feathers are coming out of it every time we touch it and whenever i wear my david bowie black t shirt to bed i wake up with feathers all over me. So then i'm guessing I need a cover, cause who puts up with that right? hello confusion. i put 'comforter cover' in the search engine at target and all that comes up in 'duvet covers'. this is perplexing because i walked away from target last time thinking a duvet was a thin blanket type thing, often in pretty fabrics that required no cover. somebody help me! could i buy a duvet cover and put my goose comforter in it? is there such a thing as a comforter cover? am i doomed to waking up covered in feathers unless my puppy 'accidently' chews the comforter and we are forced to start again? what are my options here?

i never in my life thought shopping for bed linen could be so stressful. i want my mum. and to those aussies that brought their doonas from home.. good thinking mates! but how on earth did you have room in your suitcases for the bad boy?

much thanks,

jodie.

Ooo.....I fell in love with the duvet I used in England (of course, in my mind I called it a down comforter ;)). My dillema is the comforter I have now is really pretty and matches my decor in my bedroom, so comfort wise it isn't as good but if I got a duvet it probably wouldn't match!

Maybe we could sleep under the duvet and just put the comforter on during the day so it looks good......

Well, we would have to get a duvet first of course :) Good idea for a wedding present!
